Kempton Placepot: Monday November 25

Venetia Williams: Trainer of Mentalist.

Matt Gardner heads to Kempton for Monday's crack at the Placepot...

"Venetia Williams’ yard is in fine form and her representative here, Mentalist, makes plenty of appeal..."

12:30 - Sgt Reckless will improve over hurdles in time but it's incredibly difficult to see past West Wizard here. Nicky Henderson's four-year-old demolished a decent bumper field here in March and begins life over timber with a lofty reputation, and it is interesting that his yard have won this race with the likes of Darlan and Bobs Worth in recent years.

13:00 - Just four go to post for the second leg and, though Bear's Affair hasn't looked a natural over fences thus far, his form entitles him to win this and hopefully he will. Banker.

13:30 - Harry Fry's Highland Retreat certainly deserves her place at this level after taking her form up a notch when winning a Wincanton handicap earlier this month, and she looks to be the ideal starting point. The trip is something of an unknown for Ma Filleule so the second selection will be Weather Babe, who has something to find but has progressed gradually over hurdles and may do better still.

14:05 - Venetia Williams' yard is in fine form and her representative here, Mentalist, makes plenty of appeal. He won two fairly uncompetitive handicaps last term but looks to be on a fair mark and, being just a five-year-old, could yet have more to offer. The Nicky Henderson-trained Giorgio Quercus proved more miss than hit last season, but he will be suited by this drop in trip on his return and is well enough handicapped to win a race of this nature.

14:40 - Barton Stacey is a risky one, returning from over 18 months off, but it's pretty difficult to make  a solid case for anything against him and he is unlikely to be wanting for fitness, hailing from the yard of David Pipe. We have three places to aim at, and hopefully Barton Stacey can fill one of them.

15:10 - Jimbill and Baby Mix both need to improve to defy their marks, so we ought to make it across the line by selection Royal Boy and Turn Over Sivola. The former is a fascinating contender on his chasing bow while Turn Over Sivola remains open to improvement in this sphere.
