Kempton Placepot: Monday May 28

Kempton Park: The venue for Monday's placepot

Timeform's Joe Szekeres starts the week by heading to Kempton for today's placepot...

Lastkingofscotland has demonstrated an admirable level of consistency on the all-weather throughout the winter...

14:15 - Ed Dunlop's Sharaarah made an encouraging debut at Newmarket earlier this month and she should be good enough to win what is likely to be a weaker contest. She doesn't have to win, however, a place being good enough and, with her pedigree (half-brother Burwaaz was placed in a listed race on polytrack) suggesting a switch to the surface should pose few problems, Sharaarah is a banker selection in the opener.

14:45 - The second leg of the afternoon is another maiden and Dark Don is the one who sets the standard having produced his best at Ripon in September when last seen. He improved with each and every start at two and a reproduction of that final effort should be enough to see him go close. Grey Seal showed much improvement for a switch to polytrack last time and should be open to progression on just her second start on an artificial surface. Her trainer James Fanshawe has been in fair form recently.

15:15 - Another Fanshawe runner primed to go close is Levi Draper, who sets the standard in the second division of the maiden after an encouraging polytrack debut at Wolverhampton last time. Tharawal is another who could run well dropping back to seven furlongs, and the pair will hopefully be enough to see us through the third maiden in a row.

15:45 - Hector's Chance tops the Timeform ratings for the middle-distance handicap having improved since being switched to handicaps. Those two performances have earned him a victory and a second and there is little reason to believe he can't follow up with another placed effort this afternoon. Sareeah is the most likely danger, upped considerably in trip after three modest runs in maiden company and the three-year-old filly can be expected to improve a fair amount on her handicap debut.

16:15 - Lastkingofscotland has demonstrated an admirable level of consistency on the all-weather throughout the winter and he is the main selection in the fifth race. He has produced form close to his best on the majority of his starts in recent months although he can bomb out every now and again, which means he isn't quite banker material. The insurance selection is Ducal, who tops the Timeform ratings and has the profile of a horse who could be steadily progressive throughout the 2012 season.

16:45 - The late withdrawal of Golden Compass has made the final race a lot harder to navigate than would have been the case had he taken his place in the line-up. The two we're going for are Isingy Red and Dvinsky, the former Timeform top-rated, whilst the latter has a fair record on the surface and is arguably more consistent than the majority of his rivals.
