Timeform's Matt Gardner attempts to land the Placepot at Kempton...
"Boss In Boots is readily forgiven his latest outing, simply finding a slog over three miles too much..."
13:30 - A fairly straightforward first leg, with the David Pipe-trained Baltimore Rock appearing to have been let in lightly on handicap debut. The five-year-old was off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt, jumping well in the main and going with plenty of zest at Wincanton last month, and it seems likely that he will improve further still.
14:00 - The obvious starting point here is Strollawaynow, who has plenty of experience over hurdles and took a step forward when scoring at Exeter last month; this step up in trip should play to his strengths and he looks pretty solid. It's also worth including Hot Whisky n' Ice, who was placed in points and made a winning start under Rules in a Uttoxeter bumper in November. He'll be suited by this trip on hi hurdling bow and could go well.
14:30 - Lucky Sunny shaped better than the bare result on his latest outing at Catterick, doing too much in front and making several mistakes in the home straight; he hasn't been with the in-form Venetia Williams for long and could well have a bit more to offer. The second selection is Notarfbad, who's not the most straightforward but bounced back to form at Wincanton last time and could go well if granted an easy lead.
15:05 - Boss In Boots was initially held back by sloppy jumping over hurdles but was more fluent when scoring at Exeter on his penultimate start, pulling clear with an unexposed sort, and is readily forgiven his latest outing, simply finding a slog over three miles too much. The drop back in trip will help here, and he could get back on track. It's also worth taking Charlie Longsdon's In The Gate, who wasn't seen to best effect on handicap debut last time and remains capable of better.
15:35 - Batonnier, a Grade 2 winner over hurdles, is a fascinating recruit to fences but it's impossible to ignore the claims of Une Artiste here, with the six-year-old receiving weight from all of her rivals. She's taken well to fences, just touched off in a Grade 2 at Thurles last month, and is the one to be on.
16:10 - It's difficult to make a solid case for anything in here really, but the two selected are Shuil Royale and Triangular. The first mentioned needs to bounce back from a below-par effort at Wincanton last time but is capable from this sort of mark, whilst Triangular, though far from the most genuine, ran well enough at Doncaster last time and will be in the mix if in similar form.
