Huntingdon is likely to have today's largest pool, so it's there we head for the Placepot...
"... very useful hurdler Shotavodka made an encouraging start over fences at Catterick last time and, all being well, should see these off without too much difficulty."
14:10 - We can start with a banker in this novice handicap, which contains relatively few unexposed sorts. Qasser has looked like a winner in waiting on both starts in this sort of race and, more importantly for our purposes, has proved himself on testing ground over a sharp two miles.
14:40 - Hollow Blue Sky has been consistent through the winter and has conditions here that ought to suit. Similarly, Gentle Bob was consistent once he got going last season and now has his reappearance behind him. It's to be hoped that money comes for Lord of The Dunes, who makes more sense as a favourite being an unexposed sort but is of less use as a Placepot option.
15:10 - There's no need for finesse here: very useful hurdler Shotavodka made an encouraging start over fences at Catterick last time and, all being well, should see these off without too much difficulty.
15:40 - Again, it makes little sense to get cute in this leg. Carraig Mor's hurdling debut left a deep impression and his subsequent defeat at long odds on can be forgiven to a point. He returns with his yard now back in good order after a midwinter lull and can get back on track to the spring festivals, as he'd looked destined for after his first start.
16:10 - There seems little point in opposing Princess Caetani in this mares' novice. She was useful on the Flat and proven on testing ground, something she's firmed up in her hurdles runs so far. She's been getting better by the run and has room to do so again.
16:40 - The closing hunter looks to be a two-horse race. Certain Flight is both favourite and untried under Rules, so it makes more sense to bank on recent Market Rasen winner Qualviro, for all a winning margin there of 42 lengths rather overstates what he achieved.
