"...his proven stamina is a big asset..."

Timeform on Dawson City

14:15 - SPRINGFIELD FOX (7) failed to strike in novice hurdles, but he had won all three starts in Irish points and got off the mark under Rules on his handicap/chase debut at Chepstow last time. He produced a dominant, front-running performance, jumping really well and looking in command from a long way out. He has gone up 10 lb but deserved such a rise and still has more to offer.

14:47 - The highly regarded DANNY KIRWAN (4) has been lightly raced but has shown plenty of ability, notably finishing runner-up behind an exciting prospect in a Grade 2 at Ascot last season. He is a talented type and can make a winning reappearance.

15:20 - ASHFIELD PADDY (3) made a successful handicap debut at Haydock in December and then ran just as well in defeat at Ascot, finishing a creditable second. He deserves extra credit for his Ascot effort as he was not so well placed as the winner, and he looks well treated off the same mark. He is open to further progress after only four starts over hurdles.

15:50 - KILCONNY BRIDGE (4) won a point, a bumper and got off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt, completing a simple task here. She drops markedly in trip here, but the conditions will place an emphasis on stamina and she should have the speed to cope. She appears to be on a lenient mark for her handicap debut.

16:20 - DAWSON CITY (2) is a very strong stayer and can win this race for the third year in a row. He is on the same mark as when successful last year, handles testing conditions and was an encouraging fourth at Ascot last time, so has plenty in his favour in a race that has surely been a long-term target. His proven stamina is a big asset.

16:50 - MARTHA BRAE (1) got off the mark over hurdles on testing ground at Fontwell in December and produced an even better effort in defeat at Newbury last month, finding only one too strong. The fourth home has since won, adding substance to the form, and she remains open to improvement after only three starts over hurdles.

17:20 - SHELDON's third at Newbury represents the best form on offer and he gets the verdict. He was well positioned at Newbury but still deserves credit for getting so close to a couple of exciting prospects, and he is entitled to improve for that experience.
