Goodwood Placepot: Thursday May 22

Racing comes from Goodwood on Thursday
Racing comes from Goodwood on Thursday

We head to a competitive card at Goodwood on Thursday for a low-stakes perm...

"The one to carry our hopes is Jordan Princess, who threatened to make a race of it with red-hot Oaks favourite Taghrooda on her reappearance..."

14:10 - We kick off proceedings with a six-furlong maiden and given the Hannon team have won this race four times in the last five years, Estidhkaar looks one to keep on side. He cost £200,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to Toormore; if he can back up his appeal on paper he looks sure to go close. The other to get the nod is Dark Profit, who also was a costly purchase and has come in for some early support in the market.

14:40 - It's a nine-furlong handicap up next and a number of progressive three-year-olds look set to clash. Gothic looks the first to make the cut after running well for a long way in very testing ground on his seasonal reappearance at Sandown last time. He'll surely come on from that and given Stoute's string are in good form, he should run well. Amanda Perrett often targets Goodwood and Best Kept shaped well from a tough position at Kempton last time, and is taken to build on it.

15:15 - Lion Beacon looks to have an excellent chance in the staying contest over two miles which follows. He's posted plenty of decent efforts since winning at Beverley and Sandown in May last year and with Ryan Moore on board he's hard to ignore. Another who could be involved is Presto Volante, who won well at Kempton last time and remains competitive off a 6 lb higher mark.

15:50 - It's a competitive seven-furlong handicap now and whilst Russian Realm is sure to be popular for the Stoute/Moore combination the drop back in trip doesn't look certain to suit. It's better to side with Magic City, who has Hughes back on board for the first time this season and is 2 lb lower than when winning a big-field C&D event last August. George Guru is the other to get the nod as he's been in good form in his last two starts and can follow up a decent third at Haydock off the same mark.

16:25 - A single selection will suffice for the feature contest on the card, which looks a decent renewal of this listed contest for fillies. The one to carry our hopes is Jordan Princess, who threatened to make a race of it with red-hot Oaks favourite Taghrooda on her reappearance and can build on it at the expense of today's rivals.

17:00 - The final leg of today's perm is an 11-furlong maiden and its a sole selection once again in the shape of Black Shadow, who was well-backed when runner up at Windsor last time and is likely to improve for the step up in trip this afternoon.

14:40 - 3,7
15:15 - 1,3
15:50 - 2,4
