The best of the action comes from Goodwood and that is where we head for Saturday's attempt at the Placepot
This looks a good opportunity for Sovereign Stakes winner Kodi Bear to register another success.
14:00- Epsom Icon showed the benefit of an initial outing when getting off the mark at the second time of asking, and she showed another chunk of improvement when springing a surprise in a listed event at Newbury last time. That effort showed that Epsom Icon has no problem handling cut in the ground and another bold bid is on the cards. We'll also include Mark Johnston's filly Fireglow in the permutation. Fireglow has created a good impression throughout her career, winning on debut, hitting the frame in the Albany, taking a listed race at Sandown and then finishing a good second in a Group 3 at Newmarket last time. There's every reason to expect another solid effort and she ought to be on the premises.
14:35- This is a competitive contest and we'll need to go in mob-handed if we are to progress in the Placepot. Withernsea is the first horse that we'll turn to as he has been shaping well in defeat this term and arrives on the back of a solid third at Newbury. Able to race off the same mark and facing optimum conditions, Withernsea ought to make his presence felt. There's a bit of a question as to how Enlace will handle this sort of ground, but she boasts a tremendous course record and is drawn well, whilst Magic City is another horse who also goes particularly well at this venue and is worth including on the back of a creditable effort in an ultra-competitive contest last time.
15:10- Fun Mac ran well in some good handicaps last season, but he looks an improved performer this term based on a facile win on return at Salisbury and an excellent second in the Ascot Stakes. Those efforts suggest that Fun Mac is well worth a go at this level and he can take the step up in class in his stride.
15:45- This looks a good opportunity for Sovereign Stakes winner Kodi Bear to register another success. Last season's Dewhurst runner-up was below his best in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly (helped cut out an overly-strong gallop), but he showed that performance to be all wrong when slamming his rivals at Salisbury last time. Kodi Bear was visually impressive at Salisbury and can prove a cut above today's rivals under conditions which are likely to prove ideal.
16:20- Forgotten Wish is a half-sister to several winners, including the useful Massive, and she showed some promise on debut when finishing in mid-division in a C&D maiden. She's entitled to do better with that initial experience under her belt and should go well. We'll also include Best New Show as Robert Cowell's filly shaped with plenty of promise when finishing runner-up at Ripon and she looks the type to progress.
16:50- Balmoral Castle has a career-high mark to defy, but he has a tremendous record at this venue and arrives on the back of a C&D win. He's not weighted to win, but his reliability here is a significant positive and he's a good type to have in the Placepot. Peak Storm is also worth including as, whilst this represents his toughest task to date, he has been in superb form this year, winning on four occasions, including at Newbury recently when he posted a career-best effort.
