Exeter Placepot: Sunday November 24

Matt Gardner heads to Exeter on Sunday.

Timeform's Matt Gardner tackles the Placepot at Exeter this afternoon...

12:35 - Doctor Harper, who made a most impressive start to life over hurdles over C&D earlier this month, is currently trading at 1.182/11 for the opener, which is all you need to know really. Banker.

13:05 - The Young Master has improved for the fitting of cheekpieces on his last two starts, going close at Southwell prior to getting off the mark at Fontwell a week ago, and he may well be able to advance his form a bit further now that he is in the groove. It's also worth including Lansdowne Princess, who caught the eye in defeat on his first outing for this yard at Towcester earlier this month, and she is certainly one to keep an eye on.

13:35 - It's possible to make a case for a fair few in here but the best starting point looks to be Long John, who makes his handicap debut here having shown definite signs of ability in maiden hurdles. His effort last time, when second to Royal Guardsman, reads pretty well and he remains open to further improvement. The second selection will be Water Wagtail, a half-brother to connections' Kentford Grey Lady, who showed promise in three qualifying runs last term. He was probably found out by the testing conditions on his handicap bow at Ffos Las over three miles last month, and he should do better here.

14:05 - Just four go to post for a decent contest, and the only one you're struggling to make a case for is Kasbadali, who didn't really take to fences last year and has a lengthy absence to overcome. The other three (Sonofvic, According To Trev and Ballytober) are all of interest, so they shall go into the permutation.

14:35 - Positives and negatives come attached with most of these, making for a tricky puzzle to solve, but in Trafalgar and Ultragold we should at least get a run for our money, assuming that we have made it this far of course.

15:05 - Having splurged earlier in the permutation we need a banker here, with the two options being Passato and David Pipe's Vif Argent. The vote narrowly goes to the former, who showed much more spark when runner-up at Stratford last month and should go well if backing that up here.

Selections:
12:35 - 1
13:05 - 1, 12
13:35 - 6, 10
14:05 - 1, 2, 4
14:35 - 2, 6
