Epsom Placepot: Wednesday April 25

Ryan Moore: Partners four of today's placepot selections

Timeform's Adam Brookes heads to Epsom to try and land the placepot, with the outside chance of him scooping the £25,000 guaranteed payout Jackpot while he's at it...

"Romeo Montague is certainly not straightforward but is consistent, has the assistance of Ryan Moore for the first time, and took to the idiosyncratic nature of the track when second last September."

14:15 - Although it won't have escaped many people's attention, the fact that Fathom Five surfaces in a race he's won twice before on his first start for Gary Moore must mean he's primed to strike and he makes plenty of appeal under trainer's son Ryan from a plum draw in stall 15. Lost In Paris, drawn next door, has run well on soft ground before and will have come on for his reappearance, while Jamesway goes well at the track/on the going, is down to a workable mark and hails from a yard in form.

14:50 - Aiken is sure to be popular but it may be worth chancing a few at bigger odds, namely the now-gelded duo Life and Soul and Communicator and the quirky-by-capable Romeo Montague. Life and Soul is down to a BHA mark 1 lb below his last winning one, has run well on both his starts at the track and could now be a lot more settled having had the operation, while Communicator tops the Timeform ratings, having shown useful form last year and making his debut for Andrew Balding at a course the trainer does well at (21% strike rate, +42.45 level-stakes profit). Romeo Montague is certainly not straightforward but is consistent, has the assistance of Ryan Moore for the first time, and took to the idiosyncratic nature of the track when second last September.

15:20 - Cameron Highland and Thomasgainsborough are actually joint-bottom of the six runners in the Derby Trial on Timeform ratings but, unlike the other four runners, both are deemed open to improvement and look the two to concentrate on. There's no denying that the former could be pretty special but there's a real chance his free-going ways could set this up for the latter, who is progressive and bred to appreciate the step up in trip being from the family of Pilsudski.

15:55 -Resurge has won on heavy ground at the track and is now 4 lb lower than when winning at the course last June, so he goes straight in despite ending last season on a low note. Kevin Ryan sends just the one runner to Epsom and it appears significant that the ride aboard the well-drawn Good Boy Jackson has gone to Mickael Barzalona, whose sole win in four track rides came in arguably the most famous Flat race of them all.

16:30 - John Gosden's record at the track (8% since 2008) means his Sunpass is overlooked in favour of top course trainer Richard Hannon's Valley of Destiny who ran well on soft ground when second at Warwick last time and is bound to be suited by the step up to an extended mile. With the need to save lines for other legs and the fact that Linkable has come out, Valley of Destiny goes in as a banker.

17:00 - Sylvester Kirk has made a bright start to the turf campaign and his My Sharona, who showed herself tough and steadily progressive last year, makes appeal in the last despite being drawn widest of all. Kirk's former boss Richard Hannon provides the insurance in the form of top-rated Jumeirah Palm Star, who it's anticipated will translate her recent all-weather improvement to a natural surface.
