Doncaster stage a good card this afternoon and that is where we head for Friday's attempt at the Placepot...
12:30- There are some promising types in this contest, not least smart bumper performer Our Kaempfer, and Charlie Longsdon's representative is the first contender that we'll include. Our Kaempfer was too free to do himself justice on his hurdling debut at Ascot, but he ought to do better in this sphere and is bred to appreciate this kind of trip, provided he settles better. We'll also put Work In Progress in the permutation as he showed some ability when not knocked about at Exeter and he can improve.
13:00- It's difficult to oppose Josses Hill as, although slightly disappointing on the face of it last time, his Ascot conqueror Ptit Zig has proven himself to be a leading player over fences, and Nicky Henderson's charge possesses the obvious chasing physique to better his smart hurdles form in time. He wasn't always fluent on debut, though, and will take up a huge portion of the permutation, so it is worth putting Solar Impulse in as a bit of insurance. Solar Impulse has accrued some valuable chasing experience, following up a win at Wetherby with a good second at Newbury, and his latest effort can be safely ignored after a blunder ended his chances.
13:35- This is another contest featuring some promising types, but we will bank on Glingerburn following his pleasing return to action over C&D in November. The well-bred Glingerburn had shown some promise in bumpers and he made light work of defying an absence when staying on strongly to get off the mark, winning with a bit in hand. There should be more to come and he looks likely to launch a bold bid.
14:05- Pepite Rose is the one to beat on the figures, and probably the most likely winner, but she has been below her best lately, so Highland Retreat is probably the best Placepot option. Highland Retreat has been targeted at this by her astute handler, Harry Fry, and is sure to be in perfect shape. She's taken nicely to chasing and looks rock solid, so we'll bank on Highland Retreat.
14:40- Plenty of these have something to prove but at least Lord Brendy comes here in decent form having posted another respectable placed effort at Catterick, and he is interesting back in handicap company. Achimota has been in decent heart of late and has been shaping as if this stiffer test of stamina will suit, so he looks to have fair claims.
15:15- Dual-purpose performer Dewala hasn't yet managed to win over hurdles but she keeps hitting the frame and looks a good type to have on side in the Placepot. Dewala looked a bit rusty at Southwell last time, but she ought to come on for that run and a bold bid is on the cards. We'll also put the hat-trick seeking Seas of Green in the permutation as she's clearly operating at the top of her game at present, coming here on the back of a wide-margin win at Warwick. She's up in the weights, which might stop her winning sequence, but she should still give her running.
