Timeform's Matt Gardner tackles the Placepot at Doncaster on Friday afternoon...
"It’s difficult to ignore the claims of Take The Mick, who finished second to impressive subsequent winner Buywise at Ludlow last week and should go very close indeed..."
13:10 - Market support for any of the handicap debutants in this field would look significant but, as things stand, the best options look to be Knockturnal and Daliance. The first mentioned hails from the in-form yard of Malcolm Jefferson and showed her first form over hurdles, in first-time blinkers, when third in a Musselburgh handicap earlier this month and should go close if able to build on that. Daliance wasn't disgraced at Fakenham when last seen on New Year's Day and appeals as being more solid than a few of these, making him an ideal selection for the 'pot.
13:40 - Area Fifty One has to be respected on his hurdling debut, as does Varom who is almost certainly better than he showed at Haydock in November, but it's well worth siding with Dubai Prince, a smart performer on the Flat who made a taking winning debut over hurdles at Leicester in November. His latest effort in a strong race at Kempton is readily forgiven on account of him pulling hard on bottomless ground, and he can get back on track here.
14:10 - It's possible to make a case for a few of these so, given that there are only two places on offer, it's best to side with both Victor Hewgo and Up To Something, who won't be overlooked by punters but should ensure that the permutation progresses.
14:45 - Honest John posted his best effort for a while when benefitting from a positive ride over C&D last time, and he has to be considered racing off the same mark here. It's also worth including last-time-out winner Badger Foot, who has been hit by a 6 lb rise in the weights but remains of interest and ought to be involved.
15:15 - San Telm has been taken out of here, leaving just the four runners and therefore one place. With that in mind it's best to take the two "obvious" ones, namely Tornado Bob and Atlantic Roller, and hope that one of them can do the business.
15:50 - Shine A Diamond is very interesting now sent chasing and tackling handicaps, whilst Malibu Sun should go well if able to back up his latest effort, but it's difficult to ignore the claims of Take The Mick, who finished second to impressive subsequent winner Buywise at Ludlow last week and should go very close indeed.
