Chester Placepot: Friday June 28

Racing takes place at Chester on Friday.

Timeform's Matt Gardner tackles the Placepot at Chester on Friday evening...

"Broughton has taken his form to another level since joining this yard, winning at Ripon before improving again in defeat at the same venue last time..."

18:15 - Sir Mark Prescott has won the last two renewals of this maiden and his newcomer Charlotte's Day, a sister to the yard's mile and a quarter winner Big Thunder, is certainly worth a look in the betting but we're going to side with the two current market leaders in the Placepot, namely Heskin and Royal Connection. The first mentioned put up her best effort yet at Doncaster last time and will appreciate this extra furlong whilst Royal Connection's debut form received a boost at Royal Ascot last week and she shaped as though a step up to this trip would suit when a keeping-on third at the same track earlier this month.

18:50 - Toto Skyllachy is the pick on these terms in the claimer and is likely to take some stopping, but races of this nature don't always follow the script so we're also going to stick in Clockmaker, who bounced back when winning a handicap at Musselburgh last time and is likely to prove a force at this level.

19:25 - Danat Al Atheer looks well in under a penalty incurred for her win at Newbury on Tuesday, continuing her upward curve with an impressive success, but the suspicion is that she is not the most straightforward and this track presents a completely different test. She is likely to be carrying a chunk of the pool so we're going to take her on with Bridle Belle and Miss Cap Estel, both of whom look pretty solid and will be ridden by handy 5 lb claimers.

19:55 - Broughton has taken his form to another level since joining this yard, winning at Ripon before improving again in defeat at the same venue last time, finding only the well-treated and progressive London Bride too strong. A drop back to 10 furlongs holds no fears and he seems sure to go well. We're also going to stick in Endorsing, who shaped better than the bare result at Doncaster last time, remains unexposed and looks worth a go at this sort of trip.

20:25 - Nice and straightforward this one, bank on Magic City. There are a couple of interesting ones in opposition, none more so than Kingscroft and Sandy Lane, but Magic City comfortably landed a Goodwood handicap last time and has the natural ability to win off this sort of mark and higher.

21:00 - Majestic Moon's last two outings have confirmed the impression that he is far from straightforward, looking as though he was saving something for himself when third at Haydock last time, but with the potential for a strong pace here he is worthy of another chance and can go in as a banker with three places to aim at.

18:15 - 5, 9
18:50 - 3, 4
19:25 - 1, 3
19:55 - 2, 4
20:25 - 1
21:00 - 1
= 16 lines
