Chepstow, the only jumps meeting to survive the wintry conditions, is the choice for Friday's Placepot.
"All of a sudden, here’s a closely-fought, big-field handicap. We’re going to need to take two..."
13:20 - Chosen Well and Kavanaghs Corner have no racecourse form at all and the impression is that Oh So Fruity is a longer-term prospect. Therefore Royal Redemption, second on his hurdling debut and leaving something to work on there, makes most sense for us.
13:50 - We're forced into taking Sail By The Sea here such is the dearth of competition. Normally he'd be one to take on in the Placepot so lightly raced has he been, but anything shy of going amiss will see him in the first two here.
14:20 - Second-favourite Wyck Hill is reappearing and almost certainly Grand National-bound, yet the only one we have total faith in beating him is Mackereye End. The selection was second to The Tourard Man on his debut and the winner has boosted that form since.
14:55 - This is weak even for a 0-110, certainly in terms of finding a Placepot selection. Our only real choice is Head Spin, who has placed on every start so far this season and ran right up to form at Wincanton last time.
15:30 - All of a sudden, here's a closely-fought, big-field handicap. We're going to need to take two, even with four places currently available. Garde Fou is first, having been a good second on both starts this winter and, though they've been over further, his extra stamina will come in handy if anything given the likely conditions. Cash Injection is second choice, having proved fairly consistent himself this season and having the assistance of Noel Fehily this time.
16:05 - There's just enough opposition to Fourovakind in the closing leg. Gunna Be A Devil makes it in, returned to a suitable trip having dropped a long way in the weights on the back of two runs better than their finishing positions suggest. Favoured Nation isn't a natural Placepot fit but does come here of strong interest from a handicapping standpoint and ought to prove it given a clear round.
