The recently reopened Chelmsford City is the venue for Thursday's attempt at the Placepot...

16:40- Virtual Reality made a fairly encouraging start when finishing third at Wolverhampton, offering something to work on, and he is entitled to improve on that effort. Virtual Reality wouldn't need to show much improvement to go close in this contest and we will bank on Philip McBride's three-year-old.
17:10- Oratorio's Joy has been holding her form well of late, following up a Boxing Day win at Wolverhampton with two solid in-frame efforts, and another bold bid looks to be on the cards. Oratorio's Joy ran as well as she ever has when finishing a narrow runner-up at Wolverhampton last time and this looks a good opportunity for her to bounce back to winning ways. The withdrawal of Fair Loch means that only choosing the winner will see us progress, so we will also include Royal Battalion as he ran his best race yet when finishing fourth on his handicap debut last time and could yet have a bit more to offer.
17:40- Soaring Spirits has taken well to sprinting, now two from three over six furlongs, and he remains unexposed over this trip. Dean Ivory's gelding did well to win at Lingfield last time with the steady gallop not in his favour, and a 2 lb rise in the weights leaves him fairly treated. This is a competitive race, though, so we will also add Diamond Lady to the permutation as she ran well behind Soaring Spirits last time, despite conceding first run, and she's been a model of consistency in recent months.
18:10- It Must Be Faith failed to justify favouritism over C&D earlier this month, but he ran creditably to finish a clear second, simply bumping into a progressive rival. It Must Be Faith is evidently in good heart at present, on a fair mark and should launch a bold bid. We will bank on Michael Appleby's in-form challenger.
18:40- Cadmium shaped better than the bare result at Lingfield last time, left poorly placed as the race developed, and she caught the eye with how well she finished under a hands-and-heels ride. David Probert replacing an apprentice looks significant and Cadmium can launch a bold bid. We will also include Bennelong in the permutation as he is well treated on the pick of his efforts and took a step back in the right direction when running on well to finish third at Lingfield last time.
19:10- Majeyda, representing the in-form Charlie Appleby stable, was beaten at odds on last time, but an extended seven furlongs provided an inadequate test, and she will be well suited by stepping back up to a mile. Majeyda sets the standard and ought to be difficult to beat, especially if first-time headgear draws extra improvement.
