One leg at Leicester is just too trappy to contemplate, so Thursday's Placepot comes from Catterick.
"When stamina is really tested you can set your watch by Incentivise, whose record this season has been most admirable."
12:40 - There is a temptation to go with Magic Magnolia, who is back at a more realistic level having been highly tried in recent starts. The competitiveness of this race, rare for a fillies' juvenile at a small track, means that we have to reluctantly bank on Intense Tango, who made a promising debut at listed level, and save our battles for later.
13:10 - This is a better race in which to take risks. It's competitive, but we can still look past Ebony Express and Lady Buttons and remain confident of getting through with Argent Knight and Masterplan. Both of our selections made promising hurdling debuts and have better form to call on from other disciplines; the Flat in Argent Knight's case and bumpers for Masterplan.
13:40 - Pearls Legend is just the type to do well over two miles at Catterick, besides the emphasis it can place on his suspect jumping. In this contest, this consistent gelding has been presented with a good opportunity and, should his jumping hold up, he's very likely to be in the first two.
14:10 - Plenty of eyes will be on King Dax here given he beat Douvan in France, while the rest will probably be on talented Flat performer Buckwheat. We can probably look beyond both. The form Zaidiyn achieved in finishing third (to Ebony Express) at Carlisle last time sets a high standard in this race. Even if both of the golden boys deliver on expectations, it's still odds-on that Zaidiyn will take the third slot.
14:40 - Though Barton Gift is the less exposed of the two, Incentivise is the one we want on our side from the 29-furlong marathon at Warwick four weeks back. When stamina is really tested you can set your watch by Incentivise, whose record this season has been most admirable. There's also a fair case for Pinerolo, whose form comes in fits and starts but he's on a roll for the moment and has long looked worth a try over a marathon trip.
15:10 - Snowed In took a jump forward out of nowhere when winning over C&D on New Year's Day. We've no reason to think he'll struggle turned out quickly, consistent as he is, and he makes more appeal for the Placepot than sketchy jumper Emral Silk.
