The fields are big enough without being unmanageable at Catterick on Sunday.
"We’re already in need of a banker and Benefit In Kind provides us with a sound opportunity for one in leg three."
12:30 - This is a weak handicap, so it's easy to see the interest in Abbeygrey from a lower hurdles mark, especially given there are no fences to get in his way. If we want a slightly more speculative one for backup, take Ballyreesode, who is established at three miles now (at least when conditions aren't desperate) and has been running well in defeat of late.
13:00 - We're down to seven, making this selling handicap all the more difficult. Bar what's now the top two, Air Chief and Needwood Park, there really aren't any runners that are in any sort of form, so our best option is to select those two and hope that one turns up.
13:30 - We're already in need of a banker and Benefit In Kind provides us with a sound opportunity for one in leg three. He's been getting better through the winter, landing his first race at Musselburgh in impressive fashion earlier in the month. He's no doughty stayer, but if he's going to get anything beyond three miles it's surely at Catterick on ground that's not too bad for the time of year.
14:00 - Had Downtown Boy's fitness been assured he'd have been our selection. As it is, we're forced to go down the Scoppio del Carro route, that one having shaped with promise in a decent juvenile at Warwick on his hurdling debut. His Flat form backs up the idea that there's a fair bit more to come.
14:30 - Division II of the maiden hurdle isn't easy, but the last leg is tougher still so we're going to try to find a banker here. The strongest candidate is surely Tradewinds, who has placed on every start over hurdles so far and, though he might need to up his game slightly to win here, we see now reason why he won't be among the places again.
15:00 - This last leg is difficult to parse with just five left at the time of writing. Oorayvic has been in consistently good form this winter and could get a relatively easy lead, while Vasco d'Ycy has made a positive start over fences.
