The fields are fairly small at Carlise and therefore the Placepot perm will be too...
"Next Hight is unexposed and now appears to have got to grips with hurdling to a sufficient degree."
13:20 - The opening leg is actually one of the tougher propositions, so two will be required. Edmund can't be avoided for all he's likely to be favourite. He's looked an improved performer since switching to fences and would surely have run well again but for falling last time. Backup is provided by Rocking Blues, who has been running fairly consistently this season and should find a testing two miles just about ideal so long as he handles underfoot conditions.
13:50 - There is a temptation to go with the bigger-priced Lord Brendy, but the case for likely favourite Sleepy Haven is just too strong. He's been placed on all of his starts in juvenile races, has proved himself on heavy ground and has been improving on recent starts. This also represents a drop in grade and he is therefore one to be with.
14:20 - This looks another race in which a banker wouldn't make sense. Blueside Boy has plenty in favour as an unexposed sort who should be suited by the trip, yet he's never run over fences; the fact he's a point winner mitigates enough to get him in the perm. Likewise Basford Ben has been in the form of his life this winter but his moody ways, which were in evidence on his penultimate start, mean he just can't go in alone.
14:55 - With Brijomi Queen and Truckers Darling dominating the market and rightly so, this leg becomes a case of banking on one and hoping the other goes off favourite. Truckers Darling has got the hang of hurdling now and is on the up, as opposed to Brijomi Queen's recent mis-fires, so gets the nomination.
15:30 - Clondaw Knight and Supreme Asset are expected to emerge in this interesting novice handicap. The first-named is favourite, but with more chasing experience Supreme Asset is a more logical choice for us. Ground, trip and racing style are also more appealing to the Placepot punter.
16:00 - Officially, this leg will have a banker: Next Hight is unexposed and now appears to have got to grips with hurdling to a sufficient degree. If you're up for applying a bit of finesse, though, you could include Sam Lord, who doesn't deserve to be the outsider on the back of just one poor run. He's usually more consistent than most and will carry only a small amount of the pool.
