We've only one option for Sunday's Placepot: Carlisle.
"Following the ‘no point in being fancy’ rule for hunters, Palypso de Creek is a banker in leg six. He’s a smart hunter and one that should be suited by the test Carlisle provides..."
14:30 - Protocol demands taking all three in the opening novice, but there's sufficient confidence in favourite Burtons Well to take him alone. He fell with the race at his mercy at Southwell last time and the feeling is that only a similar mishap would prevent him winning this, unless French recruit Bibi d'Eole is something out of the ordinary.
15:05 - Although he's a short-priced favourite, there is so much more going for Duke of Navan than anything else in this field, so he's our only realistic option if we want to keep things inexpensive.
15:35 - This is certainly open, with four of the five closely-matched in the betting. The two we'll take are Central Flame, who will relish the test, and the proven, consistent Special Wells.
16:05 - Staying races are Carlisle can become attritional, so the main thing here is to pick horses that will be suited to the test. We have two here, Chavoy and Russe Blanc, that will and that are essentially genuine. There's not much overlap on that Venn diagram.
16:35 - Suprise Vendor has found a bit of form reverted to hurdles, finishing a fine second here last time, and there's no reason he can't carry that on.
17:05 - Following the 'no point in being fancy' rule for hunters, Palypso de Creek is a banker in leg six. He's a smart hunter and one that should be suited by the test Carlisle provides, having such a generous response to pressure.
