Bath Placepot: Sunday September 14

Racing comes from Bath on Sunday

Field sizes on Sunday means an a small-stakes perm at Bath on is the most viable option...

"Steeler, who can be excused his below-par effort over seven furlongs last time, gets the nod..."

14:15 - It's a sprint handicap over the minimum trip for the first leg of today's perm and Royal Brave, who went very close to a third victory of 2014 on Friday, is the one for our money. He's clearly in fine form and is taken to continue it here.

14:45 - It's a maiden over the same trip up next and Robert Cowell's fine strike rate at this venue means Quick Touch is the selection. He showed plenty of speed when going close at Beverley last time and could prove hard to peg back.

15:15 - A ten-furlong handicap follows and given that this event last year was one that Croquembouche won, he gets the nod to keep the perm alive. He confirmed his current wellbeing when winning again at Sandown last month and although he'll have to be at the top of his game to deny Jalingo, he's taken to just edge him out.

15:50 - It's a conditions race over a mile under consideration next and Steeler, who can be excused his below-par effort over seven furlongs last time, gets the nod. He should get a truly run race despite the small field which will also suit and he should prove a cut above today's rivals.

16:25 - It's a fillies handicap over the same trip which follows and although there's more to come from Beverley winner Natural Charm, preference is for Hoorayforhollywood on her handicap debut. She's been allotted an opening mark of 72 which could prove to be lenient on the pick of her form and providing she is on song she looks capable of capitalising.

16:55 - The final leg of today's perm is a staying handicap over an extended 17 furlongs and the thriving Teak is the way to go. He added a victory over hurdles at Cartmel to a brace in decent staying handicaps on the flat and is clearly in the form of his life at present. Despite having to shoulder top-weight he's in far too good a vein of form to oppose and these look comparatively calmer waters.
