Bath Placepot: Sunday October 18
There's an interesting card at Bath this afternoon and that's where we head for Sunday's attempt at the Placepot.
The well-bred First Rate shaped with some promise on debut and is likely to progress markedly from that initial experience, but Teajan is perhaps a safer proposition from a Placepot perspective, his debut third the best form on offer.
14:00- Front Five looked unlucky when stepped up in trip at Chelmsford last time, doing well to finish third after being hampered at a crucial stage, and he can make amends here. Amanda Perrett's charge has hit the frame on a number of occasions this term and could yet have more to offer over this sort of distance.
14:30- Cobham's Circus finished with running left when not beaten far at Kempton last time, and Marcus Tregoning's lightly-raced charge remains open to further improvement, particularly now that George Baker takes over in the saddle. Cobham's Circus raced a bit freely at Kempton, so the fitting of the hood may be of benefit, and he has plenty more to offer as a middle-distance handicapper.
15:05- The expensively-purchased Ride The Lightning was unsuited by the emphasis on speed when finishing third at Kempton last time, so he should relish this step up in trip. He's shown plenty of promise in his career to date and ought to be on the premises. We'll also include Manjaam in the permutation for a bit of insurance, however, as he was a promising sixth on debut at Sandown and is worth forgiving a disappointing showing at Beverley having met trouble in running.
15:35- The well-bred First Rate shaped with some promise on debut and is likely to progress markedly from that initial experience, but Teajan is perhaps a safer proposition from a Placepot perspective, his debut third the best form on offer. Teajan was a bit green on debut and looks sure to improve with that run under his belt, so is likely to go close.
16:10- There aren't too many well-handicapped types in this field, but Edged Out and Mambo Spirit regularly give their running at this venue and look the pair to concentrate on for Placepot purposes. Edged Out has been in good form of late and now enjoys the services of a promising 5 lb claimer, whilst Mambo Spirit has struck up a good partnership with today's rider and will be a danger to all if getting a fast pace to aim at.
16:45- Star Fire has scored twice this year, her latest victory coming over C&D in June. She has essentially remained in form since, and there's no reason why she won't give another good account. She is joined in the Placepot by Brazen Spirit who won over C&D in July and hasn't been disgraced the last twice over a shorter trip. A return to this slightly longer trip will suit and he looks like one of the more likely types.
