Bangor Placepot: Tuesday January 6

Bangor race on Tuesday

More palatable field sizes give Bangor the edge as a Placepot prospect on Tuesday.

"Better races often make it tougher to narrow down the field for the Placepot and so it is here."

13:10 - Faustino Rustico is proving popular on what will be his first start for Dan Skelton, though the fact that he's a second-second novice over hurdles is warning enough. Go Conquer, impressive winner of a Carlisle bumper and a solid-looking Kelso novice hurdle so far, seems a better prospect to our eyes.

13:40 - Ordinarily clear second-favourite Weststreet would be our initial focus. He didn't look as quick a learner on his hurdling debut as Relic Rock, though, nor does he have that one's smart level of bumper form.

14:10 - Ideally we'd have left out Billy Braes, who comes here with limited chasing experience. However there's nothing else in the race you could bank on and he does look like a young staying chaser to have onside at this level, so he goes in.

14:40 - Bourne has come out of this handicap, which is unfortunate as he's one that Placepot punters would be keen to oppose. It also leaves Heathfield and Mighty Minnie, the only runners we'd legitimately consider, closer to the head of the betting than we'd like. Mighty Minnie, who ought to thrive for this step up in trip, looks the better option for us.

15:10 - Better races often make it tougher to narrow down the field for the Placepot and so it is here. We're going to take two, with Final Assault our first choice under the weight of his consistency and Jackies Solitaire, more reliable than she should be given her attitude, our second option.

15:40 - The bumper makes an appearance on the Placepot and it's not a particularly welcome one. Final Nudge doesn't deserve to be as short as he is and Cassie is a much better option for us, albeit one we're not totally comfortable about flying solo with in a race that only has two places. We'll therefore back her up with Lovely Job, who hasn't been seen under Rules yet but is an well-connected and well-bred winner in Irish points.

13:40 - 8
