Ayr Placepot: Wednesday May 21

Racing comes from Ayr this afternoon
Racing comes from Ayr this afternoon

We head north of the border on Wednesday in our attempt to scoop the placepot at Ayr...

"The first to get the nod is Forrest Flyer, who has won twice over C&D, is 3 lb below his last winning mark and won second time out last season..."

13:50 - We kick off proceedings with a six-furlong maiden, and given that all of the contenders are making their racecourse debut the market looks to be the best guide. A sole selection will suffice in the shape of Jungle Cat; not only does he appeal most on paper, but he's attracted the lion's share of the support and his yard have made a good start with juveniles this term; he's taken to continue it.

14:20 - It's a six-furlong handicap up next and it looks an ordinary affair with most arriving with something to prove. The first to get the nod is New Lease of Life, who shaped better than the result suggested on his belated return over C&D last time and could surprise a few if he's capable of building on it.  The other to make the cut is Fathom Five, who scored from a career-low mark at Yarmouth last month and lines up here off just 3 lb higher.

14:50 - We remain over six furlongs for the second division of the 14:20 and the first to make the cut is Hab Reeh, who appears to have got back on track recently. He supplemented his Newcastle success with a solid second from this mark at Hamilton last time and is hard to ignore with Ruth Carr's horses running so well. The other to keep on side is Monel who looks the pick of Jim Goldie's runners and came a decent fourth to Hab Reeh at Newcastle last time, and can build on it.

15:20 - It's a seven-furlong handicap under consideration next and Uncle Dermot is the first to get the nod on the back of two solid placed efforts in recent weeks. He can build on his efforts at Warwick and Nottingham off just a 2 lb higher mark and go close once again. It's hard to ignore the market confidence behind George Rooke on his first start for Keith Dalgleish and he's taken to justify the support he's come in for and run well.

15:50 - A sole selection will see us through in the fillies' handicap over a mile which follows and the horse to carry our hopes is Thorntoun Lady, who shaped encouragingly in maidens last year and showed improved form when runner-up in a handicap here on her seasonal reappearance. She looks the one capable of the most improvement and should be suited by the step up in trip.

16:20 - The first to get the nod in the final leg of today's perm, a staying handicap over 15 furlongs is Forrest Flyer, who has won twice over C&D, is 3 lb below his last winning mark and won second time out last season. He will have come on for his seasonal reappearance and looks to have an excellent chance. The other to make the cut is Funky Munky who is in fine form of late, winning at Carlisle over hurdles last month and can continue his excellent run of form here.
