13.40- In a race that looks particularly competitive, with no less than 3 last time out winners in the line-up, the safest option looks to b selecting two runners to see us through the first leg. Bremner was an easy winner over 7f here last time and although that was undoubtedly not a strong maiden, this Racing Post Trophy entry did enough to suggest he can go on to better things. He is joined by Roachdale House who hails from the in-form Richard Fahey yard and needed every inch of Newcastle's seven furlongs last time and should find today's extra furlong entirely up his street.
14.10- We stay with the two-year-olds in leg two in which the stand out pick has to be Kommander Kirkup who was an unconsidered 40/1 chance on debut at York in May, yet was only narrowly denied by subsequent Gimcrack hero Astaire that day. With that piece of form to boast, he has to enter calculations with the only worry being his own subsequent absence. With that slight worry in mind he is joined by Ribbleton who has done nothing wrong in finishing placed on both starts to date and looks highly likely to be involved in the finish once again.
14.40- It's fiendishly difficult stuff we encounter in leg three, and therefore we're siding with two that make appeal for different reasons, beginning with Captain Scooby who has won over C&D in the past, hails from a yard in good order at present and crucially has his ideal ground conditions. Boris Grigoriev, on the other hand, has plummeted down the weights and put up his best effort in a while on seasonal reappearance here last month. He could just be the fly in the ointment coming from the shrewd Mick Easterby operation.
15.10- Likely favourite Barkston Ash appeared to appreciate the combination of the ease in the weights and the return to soft ground when scoring convincingly at Redcar last time, but all his wins have come at six furlongs so he is taken on with former C&D winner Spes Nostra who hasn't been disgraced of late, and comes from a yard in good form at present. However with plenty liking to front run, it may just be worth adding a hold-up performer to the mix as our safety blanket, and that horse comes in the shape of Ted's Brother who should take advantage of any break-neck gallop upfront late on.
15.40- In a race where consistency is in short supply, New Leyf could be the answer. Dandy Nicholls' charge has come handily down the weights this term and faces his easiest assignment in a while. With Adrian Nicholls taking the ride in preference to the stable's other representative, Llewellyn, we're hoping New Leyf can see us through to the last leg unscathed.
16.10- Another tricky handicap to assess and, in the stark contrast to the previous race, several arrive on the back of good runs. However the one we are siding with is Dream Walker who has been nothing short of a revelation since joining Brian Ellison winning three of his four starts, and should find conditions spot on.
