Only one day to go until Epsom kicks off a really exciting weekend of racing and two important classics. In the meantime, Carl Harris has eagle-eyed a pair of overpriced jollies...

Today there is plenty of racing on offer with flat jumps and all-weather action, but Wetherby has been called off because of firm ground and a faulty irrigation system.

First stop is Lingfield where Ravi River 2:20 makes his debut in selling company for Jim Boyle, whom he rejoins from Tom Dascombe. The five year-old has an official mark of 80, which gives him plenty in hand against the field on a surface he relishes. It may appear a strange decision to run such a highly rated horse in a seller but these connections are not afraid to do so in search of a winner.

I would price up Ravi River as a shorter price than the [2.3] on offer at the time of writing. Having won a handicap from a mark of 75 three runs ago he should be too good for his opponents this afternoon. I would suggest that if he was not to win then there will be a few claims for a horse that will give owners plenty of fun. It looks like Jim Boyle is looking to get a confidence boosting victory at the basement grade for owners who have plenty of horses in the stable.

Any Given Day (5:50) at Uttoxeter looks another very good bet following an impressive debut over hurdles at Kelso a couple of weeks ago. The gelding looks a decent recruit from the flat and will enjoy the fast surface on which he has winning form from the flat. The change of codes and the move to the McCain yard looks to have brought out the best in this horse who could be much better than the opponents he faces today. Although favourite, I would suggest that the current price offers value given the expected improvement from that first outing over obstacles. I expect Any Given Day to win in commanding style and is my best bet of the day.

Thursdays Bets:

2.20 Lingfield - Ravi River - win @ [2.3]
5.50 Uttoxeter- Any Given Day - win @ [2.1]
