Carl Harris is starting the week with a pair of bets at Thirsk and Carlisle.

It is the first day of an exciting month that contains the Oaks, the Derby and five days at Royal Ascot and for anyone going racing today summer is certainly here with beautiful store in store. Tonight Windsor and Thirsk will be great places to be, a few drinks on the lawn and a couple of winners in the sunshine, I can think of nothing better.

The first race at Thirsk is a lowly seller in which Anjomarba (6.10) is the one to be on. Last week was her first run in this grade at Yarmouth where she won impressively making all and pulling away in the final furlong. Connections who bought her back for 5600 guineas will look for some compensation on the commission paid tonight. The race looks to be between Bill Turner's filly and Mick Channon's Alphacino. Anjomarba should have the beating of the field despite the penalty which with her sex allowance puts her on level weights with her main rival. Anjomarba is my bet of the day.

It is indicative of the quality of the cards that my bet of the day is in selling company. There is a decent listed contest at Windsor where J J The Jest Plane (7.55) will be too short for some but is nonetheless an interesting runner. He is rated 120 which gives him 11 pounds in hand over his nearest rival and is gearing up for Royal Ascot. Ryan Moore should get this one home with little fuss.

I will have one bet this afternoon at Carlisle where Impressible (4.15), a half sister to top sprinter Reverence is the class act on show. Running here after a creditable third in a quality field at York this race looks a much easier task, certainly off the same mark of 70. The fast ground will suit Eric Alston's filly whose form stands head and shoulders above her rivals. Noodles Blue Boy, the only other recent winner in the field steps up in class following a selling victory at Beverley and has previously struggled in handicaps from the same mark at Impressible. The selection is a bit shorter than I had hoped, but I cannot see anything beating her if she reproduces her York performance.
