Timeform on The Bay Birch

Boldmere - 14:47 Chepstow

Boldmere had shown some promise over hurdles for Graeme McPherson in the 2018/19 season, notably winning a novice hurdle at Market Rasen, but he took his form to another level over fences for Caroline Bailey last term. He was an impressive, wide-margin winner of a handicap chase at Leicester in December and built on that to defy a 10 lb higher mark at Doncaster, again scoring with authority. Those victories earned him a crack at the Grade 2 Towton Novices' Chase at Wetherby, and he looked set to score before coming down at the last. He remains open to improvement over fences this season and can make a winning return to action.

Longhouse Sale - 15:22 Chepstow

This is a fascinating contest and it's no surprise that Fusil Raffles and Fiddlerontheroof are at the head of the market given the level they reached over hurdles. However, it would be a mistake to underestimate the prolific Longhouse Sale as he has made a flawless start to his chasing career, winning all three starts and barely touching a twig. He looks a natural over fences and his experience should stand him in good stead.

The Bay Birch - 16:32 Chepstow

The Bay Birch was a ready winner of this race last year so very much catches the eye off an 8 lb lower mark. She lost her way slightly last winter but looked back on song on her reappearance at Warwick last month, impressing with how well she travelled for a long way. The Bay Birch looked in control early in the straight but was unable to sustain the effort on her first start since March. She can build on that promising comeback.
