Carl Harris is unimpressed by this afternoon's fare but good cards at Windsor and Pontefract this evening make his bet of the day more a bet of the night...
I would have had a red face if Billy Beetroot hadn't won yesterday at Brighton. Fortunately my blushes were spared as Ryan Moore managed to get the Williams horse who had been placed in his last six starts home in front.
This afternoon looks pretty poor in terms of betting opportunities. Fortunately this evening there are good cards at both Windsor and Pontefract where the feature is the Pipalong Stakes (8.20). Evas Request ran well at Epsom on Saturday and connections are looking to make hay with a quick reappearance in this listed fillies contest. She looks to have this at her mercy, certainly when the Betfair market opened last night I was stunned to get [1.93], but sadly not for very much. As long as she has no hangover from Saturday (her participation indicates that she doesn't) then I suggest that she will win readily. Looking at official ratings there is only one serious challenger who Mick Channon would be disappointed not to beat. Evas Request looks a rock solid proposition tonight.
At a bigger price to back both win and place is Heroes (7.30) at Windsor. Tim Vaughan had him spot on to run out an easy winner at Brighton last time for which he earned only a two pounds rise in the weights. Vaughan has proved himself a trainer capable of notching up a string of wins with horses he acquires from others. Over the winter Little Shilling improved out of hand and whilst I am not suggesting Heroes will do the same I do think he may prove to be well handicapped this evening. Heroes is the only one of the 10 runners who has actually managed a win from his last six starts and I think he will score again this evening. The price is certainly right for a win and place investment on Heroes.
Mondays Bets:
7.30 Windsor- Heroes, win and place @ [5.5]
8.20 Pontefract- Evas Request, win @ [1.55]
