Carl Harris will be rooting for Billy Beetroot at Brighton and has another selection up his sleeve elsewhere. Read on...

It seems strange that on Friday, when people were at work there was a fantastic card at Epsom yet there is nothing of great quality on Sunday. I do think British racing is missing a trick on Sundays. Saturday though was a triumph for the sport although I got the Derby wrong and underestimated what an exceptional horse Sea The Stars is. The first horse for 20 years to complete the 2000 Guineas and Derby double really is a worthy champion and the best Derby winner of the 21st century. He will be winning more group one races this season, I'm sure.

Today's best bet is Aureate (3.10) at Southwell who should have no problem picking up this and more claimers in the future. Rated 85, he has struggled in handicaps but won over course and distance last time in a lady riders' race and should be seen to better effect with Tom Eaves aboard. It looks a relatively straight forward task for Aureate in a weak looking field. Admittedly a short price, Aureate should win readily and repeat last month's course and distance success.

Elsewhere Ryan Moore will try to get Billy Beetroot (5.00) home in front at a bigger price; the race taking place at Brighton. He has been knocking at the door, having been placed in his last six consecutive starts. It is the first time that the Champion Jockey has ridden the horse which could prove to be a master stroke by the Williams yard today. The booking certainly looks significant and I will back Ryan Moore to work his genius on a horse that clearly has plenty of ability.

Sunday's Bets

3.10 Southwell Aureate, win @ [1.92]
4.00 Brighton Biily Beetroot win @ [3.15]
