Carl Harris goes back to normal this week with one to back and one to lay...

It's back to the usual stuff this week, which some might say is a good thing after Royal Ascot and I suppose that I welcome the chance to get a few quid back, though Saturday was not bad with High Standing getting back a good chunk of the week's losses when winning the Wokingham.

It's off to Lingfield this afternoon where there are a few very interesting races, not least the 3.15 where Lochstar was a well backed winner over course and distance before disappointing badly at York next time out. Looking at the race there are a host of front runners, there will be no shortage of pace for sure, and it could be set up nicely, on a track where closers do so well, for a hold up performer. The one therefore to take here is Chijimes who has won four of his last five races at Lingfield. Richard Hughes is the man in form, fresh from a wonderful tour of duty at Royal Ascot and takes the ride for the Dore yard. There is certainly some value about Chijimes at an early Betfair price of [7.2]. He will have to overcome a seven pounds rise in the weights, but the race could be set up perfectly from stall eight.

In the 8:50 at Chepstow the market makes Bataleur the clear cut choice, but this is most definitely one to take on, for me. Firstly the draw is against Mick Channon's horse. High numbers are favoured in big field sprints at Chepstow, the last four such races have seen double digit numbers prevail and Bataleur has been kept very busy which is another negative for backers. Tonight will be the five-year-old's sixth race within a month and his last win from a mark of 55 was his first since his two-year-old campaign. He is now rated 64 which looks to have his measure and he is effectively five pounds worse off here following his last run off the new mark having been apprentice ridden at Lingfield. There are more nagatives than positives and he is one to take on with a host of runners on the layer's side.

All things considered Bataleur is one to lay at Chepstow.

Monday's Bets:

3.15 Lingfield - Chijimes, win and place @ [7.2]
8.50 Chepstow- Bataleur, lay @ [4.4]
