Silver to win the gold and emulate his mother
Back Silverscape @ 4.57/2 in the 14:5 at Bath
A rarity for a Bath race for Tuesday: a non-5f contest higher than a 0-65. Indeed, it's as if the ambassador is spoiling us with a 0-90 and there's even a horse with a rating of 90 running in this - as opposed to 55.
Initially Green Team on first start for Owen Burrows came under consideration, but his mark of 90 is putting me off, as that's a stiff rating judged on winning an Ayr novice.
Green Team had been cut from 6/1 last night to 9/2 this morning, but at a similar price, Silverscape looks a fascinating candidate.
He thoroughly enjoyed being upped to 1m2f on his last run in the winter at Lingfield, where his end product was strong. The pace was strong at the end as the front-runner set up a finish for those in behind by going off too quickly, and Christian Howarth rode Silverscape well with a patient sit out the back, and then came widest of all where he really hit his straps in the final furlong.
The 3yo churned out an 11.43 sectional from 3f to 2f - which was the quickest in the race, so his stamina looks assured.
Howarth still can claim 7lb and his mark of 80 looks well within range. Silverscape's dam Miss Minuty liked Bath in her four attempts at the track, with a win here in 2015. She was also a horse who was played late off the pace.
Raise the flag for Ecossais
Back Ecossais @ 4.57/2 in the 15:11 at Bangor
Bangor ruler Donald McCain is in for a good day no doubt at a track he completely dominates, and he is likely to have three favourites on the card all at pretty short prices. Hopefully we can break his hegemony here.
The race that appeals most however is minus one of Don's, and that's the 3m Handicap Chase.
Ecossais did more than enough last time to make of him of interest for this, as he ran well over 3m4f at Kelso - a trip that stretched his stamina to the limit.
He travelled nicely too, with the first time cheekpieces on and he remains unaltered from his mark of 110 and the return to 3m looks ideal for this consistent chaser.
Dropping down in trip with some rain forecast are two factors that give him the edge for me. Our Jim is in the line up and he's an old Hexham friend, but he's out of form at the moment.
