Alan Dudman is off to Scotland for his Sunday double and he is looking forward to seeing Rose Dobbin's The Player Queen run as part of his 7/1 Sportsbook multiple...
"She won by 7L and travelled so easily through the race that she got marked down as a very useful prospect. With a good book of mares' races now, this can be a stepping stone to perhaps bigger things."
Rowdy can make a noise and be heard in Scotland
It wasn't our day at all on Saturday. The call on High Moon seemed a good one as the horse was backed from 14/1 to 8/1 but didn't get home in the brutal conditions at Aintree, but he did travel well. And I think Chris's Dream would have gone close in the Becher, he was still travelling well before Jonjo's unseat after the Canal Turn. He did have his ideal conditions too with the ground as soft as it was, so that could have been one that got away.
On with Sunday and another packed day, and I cannot let Rowdy Rustler go without backing him in the opener at Kelso.
Lucinda Russell's team are in great nick and Rowdy Rustler ran in the Bill Baxter race at Ayr two weeks ago but didn't seem to get home over 2m5f.
He raced close to the pace and seemed to get tired in the worsening conditions. But Bill Baxter looks a useful horse and Russell's Readysteadybeau has come out of the contest to win this week. I've taken a positive view of the form.
It was also the selection's first run after a break and wind surgery so he might be a lot sharper - especially dropping down to 2m today.
Let's find out more about the Queen
Trainer Rose Dobbin has an outside chance in the Borders National with Do Not Disturb - a horse who likes Kelso and ran well last time over 3m. He does travel in his races and goes from the front so he could be a nice in-running trade for the race at 13:03, but I suspect he might be vulnerable to something with a bit more stamina.
However, Dobbin should be on the scoresheet in Scotland on Sunday with a very nice prospect in the shape of The Player Queen.
I backed and tipped her last time for the column when she emphatically won at Ayr.
She routed the field by 7L and travelled so easily through the race that she got marked down as a very useful prospect. With a good book of mares' races now, this can be a stepping stone to perhaps bigger things.
Her win came over 2m4f on good ground in October and this will be a good test as Gordon Elliott has sent over Fairyhouse winner Motown Maggie. There is also Flower Of Scotland as a potential danger, but she looks good enough to defy a penalty in a race that doesn't have a lot of depth.
We'll be hearing more about The Player Queen no doubt with perhaps something big in the build-up to Christmas, but she is related to a couple of good horses in The Bosses Cousin and Pat's Pearl, and there are plenty of winners in her family.
