Back Russell's Conviction for another win at Hexham
Back Without Conviction @ 6/1 in the 14:40 at Hexham
A real bonus to have Hexham on Monday, and we start with a previous Hexham winner who drifted out to 6/1 last night on the Sportsbook in Without Conviction, and I don't mind backing drifters.
Trained by Lucinda Russell, the mare won over 2m4f in the north east in brutal ground in early December and looked to possess abundant stamina. That success came off a mark of 97, but she couldn't get her head across the line in front on her next few starts.
One came in a far stronger grade at 0-135 level at Newcastle, and this 0-100 looks considerably easier. She was also a bit keen at Kelso out in front, but her jumping was solid and a return to the Hexham fences are a plus.
Her Hexham win earlier in the season received a positive sectional upgrade, and three horses boosted the form subsequently with victories. Rain is forecast, and that will help, plus her trainer Russell lies in second in the track's league table this term with amount of winners. She also runs in the Ahoy Senor red and black silks, which are nearly as dashing as Peter Scu's Tartan onesie that was aired on TV over the weekend. Scu is such a legend.
Bere can bounce back after Imperial Cup flop
Back Mystery Bere @ 3/1 in the 15:15 at Hexham
The race of the day in the north east is the 0-130 over hurdles and the Tom Symonds hurdler Mystery Bere has a good chance to get back on track after a poor run at Sandown last time.
That came in the Imperial Cup in March, so it was quite a challenge, but he never got involved and was pulled up. I wouldn't put that down to the ground as he holds winning form in testing, but he's had a chance to get over it with a month break.
He'd previously ran second at Cheltenham in a good handicap during the winter from a mark of 128 despite appearing not totally in love with the quicker surface. He picked up strongly and stayed well, and he's certainly worth a go at chancing his arm over 2m4f.
Previous efforts at Fontwell (where he has won twice) indicated he has a fair bit of untapped stamina, and with the going on the easy side for Monday, he can justify his price of 3/1.
