Alan Dudman had two seconds in his double yesterday so he is hoping to address that with a 54/1 multiple for Friday's action at Chepstow...
"The second (Investment Manager) went on to win a Newton Abbot handicap from 106 easily, and the selection was only a length behind him and runs today from 1lb lower."
A taste of France in Wales for Murphy
Two seconds yesterday, and while Permission Granted ran well at a BSP of 8.62, Betty Baloo was beaten at a short price, and didn't have the best use made of her in a tactical affair. She went off the sort of price I thought she should have been but it was an underwhelming effort.
Friday's action is very much the dark before dawn on the eve of Betfair Chase day, and with the ground genuinely quick at Catterick, that's a meeting I will be leaving alone.
Fabrique En France is going chasing for in-form Olly Murphy and big-spending owners the Morans in an open-looking race.
He won a heavy-ground Wincanton novice last January quite nicely, but then suffered a slight injury at Kelso on his second start. His victory came after a wind operation, and he's had another one in preparation for Friday. Although with the tongue tie added for the first time, he must have had some problems with his breathing, but he has been described as a straightforward horse.
An opening mark of 119 looks workable and he's big and scopey enough to jump a fence. Harry Fry's Millbank Flyer will probably start as favourite, and his horses are often too short in the market.
More to come from Scott's wordsmith
Trainer Jeremy Scott has taken a while to warm up this season (a bit like a Ridley Scott film), and with only two winners for the campaign, I doubt we'll hear from pundits "the stable are flying". But Manofmanywords warrants a closer look in the each-way market in the conditionals' race to close the card. He could be named after FR David, as words came easy to him.
This is also an Extra Place Special on the Sportsbook.
His three starts to date in novice company have all been over shorter and he's been big prices in the trio of outings at 40/1, 33/1 and 20/1. Plus he has faced testing and bottomless ground in those runs too.
As a 9yo he has hardly stood any racing, although he did win a couple of points by big margins for Camilla Scott - who has trained winners for the owner.
The 3m today could bring about some improvement as there is stamina in his pedigree, and his sire Sulamani has a National winner to his name. There could even be a case for the better ground to suit as Manofmanywords' dam Spread The Word won over jumps nearly 20 years ago when ground was given as firm. The owner/breeder Pam Pengelly's green and red silks were a regular sight at the old Towcester with staying horses such as Dennis The Legend and Fly The Wind back then, and she tends to own horses that get a trip.
Elsewhere River Walk is interesting at Catterick for Don McCain in the bumper at 15/8. He's a well-related horse out of Lucy Rouge - a horse who achieved nothing in her career and all of her relations were more successful, but she has Trevor Hemmings' Great Try and The Nightingale in her page, and the former won his debut on the flat by 9L. However, the ground could be quite lively in Yorkshire.
