Another near-miss for the Daily Racing Multiple team with two winners and a third yesterday, again. Alan Dudman has a huge 78/1 four-timer to consider for Thursday...
"He's clearly on the up and is back down to 1m6f this evening at Chelmsford, but that shouldn't be a bother at all with previous track and trip success last month. His record on AW surfaces is now 4-10."
Pipe looks a smoking bet to start the four-timer
Another close day with two out of three in yesterday's column, and for the second day running the beaten selection finished third. Although nothing would have caught Sea The Shells at Wolverhampton - she was impressive.
We have four today, paying 78/1 on the Sportsbook Multiple. And don't forget with a £20 stake you receive a £5 free bet. Having four horses reminds me of my days as a lazy student with my long list of accas. Some of those slips were more like War and Peace on scrolls.
Nicky Henderson's Chantry House got the ball rolling for us yesterday in tidy fashion, and the trainer's Pipesmoker has a big rating of 137 in the context of a novice.
He actually ran against Chantry House and caught the eye at Cheltenham before finishing second to Sporting John - who was rated 146 at the time and is now a Grade 1 winner over fences. The heavy ground is a slight worry but he appears to have a fair bit of stamina and I like his price of 7/4 considering the form against some classy operators.
Althiqa can land the Balanchine
It wouldn't be a Thursday selection without a bit of Meydan, and we head for the Group 2 Balanchine. And Balanchine was one of my favourites back in the heyday of Godolphin.
Althiqa was smart in Europe with Group form during last season and looks an ideal type for these Dubai races. She scored as easy as you like in the Group 2 Cape Verdi last time winning from off the pace by over two lengths. She was impressive and clocked a good closing sectional of 23.03.
It's hard to see her not winning and I thought she should be odds-on. We can throw her into the acca at Evens on the Sportsook.
Indigo Times to come good once again
I put up Indigo Times at a big price to win in my Bets Of The Day recently and the horse hacked up at Southwell over 2m in a 0-90. I cited then the reasons that he's a stayer that sees out the trip well but also travels - and that's exactly what he produced then.
He's clearly on the up and is back down to 1m6f this evening at Chelmsford, but that shouldn't be a bother at all with previous track and trip success last month. His record on AW surfaces is now 4-10.
We can get 15/8 on the Sportsbook, as Notation is the Evens fav, and he's only got three rivals to beat including the well treated Protected Guest, a horse who never wins and would find trouble in an empty room.
Ghiani to complete the acca
Dawn View's jockey Marco Ghiani has greatly impressed me this winter. Not only is he the complete opposite to me with a wonderful cheery outlook, but he's excellent tactically and a few of his winter wins around Southwell have have been top draw with the execution of a plan.
Ghiani has ridden Dawn View on her latest two starts over 1m2f but she hasn't settled at all. I think she stays that trip just about, but she's down to 1m this evening and that's the optimum distance for her. They'll go a stronger pace and she has a better chance of seeing it out fully.
The handicapper has given her a chance from her lowest mark of 54 and she's in first-time headgear. Ghiani is the man for the job.
