Alan Dudman is taking in Dundalk in the search for his second winning double of the week and his two selections make a 44/1 Sportsbook multiple for Friday night...
"Back down to 7f was against her last time as she was outpaced in a 0-65, and she also found herself short of room in the closing stages to finish in fifth."
Halford to strike in maiden
The famous green and red silks of HRH Aga Khan will be gracing Dundalk on Friday night, and Michael Halford's Askarabad is a big enough price at 8/1 to set us up for an each-way double tonight.
This 1m maiden looks winnable, with a host of poor time-figures recorded from those that have experience, and Dermot Weld's Golden Beach looks pretty limited with his five runs and is only rated 78.
Halford's Askarabad made a belated debut in November, and hardly anything was expected as he was sent off at 50/1. Over 7f he wasn't quick enough, or wise enough to lie up with the pace, but he made a small amount of headway in the closing stages.
The dam Askeria has produced a couple of jumpers and her stock tend to stay a trip well, and the selection certainly looks as though the extra furlong will suit.
The yard's runners have been going well since November with six winners and numerous placed horses from the last 20 sent out.
Miss C to show some cunning and can score for Mr P
Dundalk regular Miss Cunning gets the nod for the low grade 18:45, and the return to 1m is certainly a plus for the Kevin Prendergast runner.
Her last victory came back in August 2020 from a mark of 62, and she travelled well in that to win from a poor draw. Another win has proved to be somewhat elusive but in keeping with that, her mark has tumbled down to 52.
The first time visor perked her up in mid-December with a solid second behind Mulgrave, a horse who looked quite well treated himself. Miss Cunning was keen and she could have done with a stronger pace as that suits - getting a nice tow into the closing stages.
Back down to 7f was against her last time as she was outpaced in a 0-65, and she also found herself short of room in the closing stages to finish in fifth. She certainly saves her best for Dundalk and is well up to wining in this grade.
Her trainer doesn't send the same amount of runners to the track compared to the likes of Joseph O'Brien (924 in the last five season) and Ado McGuinness (745), but he has a fair enough strike-rate at around 18%.
