Alan had a small winner at 2.74 yesterday, and he is relying on a Sedgefield specialist on Friday to hopefully help to land our 17/2 double...
"He can handle the rise in class in rating and should see out the extra 2f with no problems as he was a course and distance winner back in September. His record at this north east track over fences is 1,1,1 and will be hard to beat."
Don can fire with newcomer for opener
There are two with experience at the top of the market for the 12:00 opener at Sedgefield, but the presence of a Donald McCain newcomer Jungle Jack adds a bit more intrigue to a good race for the track.
Dealing with those that have raced before. Mike Smith's Well Planted met a good prospect at Ayr last time, but he was beaten by five lengths in a race that lacked depth. While First Angel was only beaten 3L behind Zabeel Champion at Leicester. But the latter is trained by Laura Morgan, and she's a yard I have been on with three horses recently - including Here We Have It in the week, but he didn't quite finish his race off.
So for that reason I am happy to take a punt on the Dapper Don's newcomer Jungle Jack. He's a full-brother to Alan King's very smart hurdler Valdez - who was an early type in bumpers in hurdles. He went on to achieve a rating of 153 and stayed an intermediate trip well. In fact the dam has produced three horses, and two have been multiple winners.
McCain has already racked up 79 winners this season, and in the last two weeks is hitting a 32% strike-rate. He won an Irish Point over a year ago, but the yard can obviously get them ready first time. The team had a very nice hurdler win recently in A Different Kind, and hopefully Jungle Jack can follow suit.
Cilluirid can keep the Sedgefield record going
Tim Easterby's Cilluirid is going so well at the moment at Sedgefield, it's hard to ignore his claims at the track again at 85/40.
He took apart a race at the beginning of November to win from 97, and he produced a near-identical performance winning by 6L over 2m4f on his most recent start. He has travelled very strongly in both runs and seems to enjoy the good, and good to soft conditions. His jumping has been good too.
His new mark of 115 has kicked in, but with the way he has bombed through his races fairly easily, he can handle the rise in class and rating and should see out the extra 2f with no problems as he was a course and distance winner back in September. His record at this north east track over fences is 1,1,1 and will be hard to beat.
