Alan Dudman was close to landing the double on Monday with a winner and a second, so is hoping to go one better on Tuesday at Galway with a 40/1 boosted multiple following two non-runners earlier. We also chuck in a racing-footy double with the World Cup qualifiers returning...
"She looked a stayer when she landed a Premier Handicap at Leopardstown last October, and triumphed in good style from 86. She's well up to landing one of these and is the top-rated in the field. "
Function looks fit for a win
Another one-two yesterday as we missed out on the double again with a winner and a second. The duo for Tuesday previously are now both non-runners, so for now, Dermot Weld and Willie Mullins won't be ruling at Ballybrit tonight, not with Sherkin Island and Shewearsitwell anyway. So we have a couple of reserve selections.
I've had a look at the 7f handicap and this looks as open as anything I have seen on the card tonight. Plenty of the field could face genuine quick ground with the sunshine forecast at Galway today into the evening, and quite a few might not act on it.
One contender that shouldn't have any issue is Fit For Function, he's priced up at a generous 8/1.
He's a good ground performer who stays 7f well, even though he has raced a fair bit over shorter. If he can recapture the form of his July second at Leopardstown, he can go close. He was a little unlucky in that race, meeting some trouble when trying to get involved, and the winner was improving at that stage and has subsequently been placed off marks in the 70s.
Fit For Function has been held up in his last two runs in defeat, but I think he's a better horse with more prominent tactics - a must for Galway.
Weld filly should be up to taking Listed feature
We lost Sherkin Island of Dermot Weld's to him pulling her out earlier as a non-runner, but I am sticking with the master of Rosewell to take the honours in the feature Oyster Stakes over 1m4f with Haparanda.
There's a fair bit of handicap form on offer with her rivals, but Haparanda has already competed at Listed level, and was a little unlucky not to win at Roscommon last time out - with the times suggesting the stop-start gallop went against her from being held up out the back. She was also hampered at Cork earlier in the season.
She looked a stayer when she landed a Premier Handicap at Leopardstown last October, and she triumphed in good style from 86. She's well up to landing one of these and is the top-rated in the field.
Combine Ibiza and Croatia for 3.259/4 double
Daryl Carter says: "Charles Hills looks to have found a grand opening for Ibiza Rocks to get off the mark for the season after bumping into a potentially useful rival on handicap debut at Sandown last time. He pulled well clear of some hardened handicappers in the process, and a two pounds rise for that run looks lenient by Mr handicapper, especially given the balance of his form to date."
Dan Fitch says: "Croatia are looking for revenge, having lost the reverse fixture 1-0. Since then, they are unbeaten in four (W3 D1) and have not conceded a single goal."
