Timeform take you through the card at Chester on Thursday.

13:50 - BROROCCO (7) shaped encouragingly when fifth on his seasonal reappearance at Chelmsford and duly showed the benefit of that outing with a dominant victory at Epsom last time. He scored in the style of one with even more to come on that occasion and remains potentially very well-treated from just 4 lb higher in the weights here. The lightly-raced Khairaat is an obvious danger, but Brorocco is taken to build on the promise of that latest outing and can follow up for Andrew Balding.

14:25 - POET'S WORD (4) resumed winning ways with a decisive victory on his most recent outing at Chelmsford, staying on strongly to lead deep inside the final furlong and appearing to have far more in hand than the official winning margin would suggest. This represents by far the toughest task of his career to date, but Poet's Word is just the type of horse trainer Sir Michael Stoute excels with and is fancied to take this step up in class in his stride.

15:00 - MUTAWATHEB (4) fared better than the bare result when second at Chelmsford in March, enduring a troubled passage as the field entered the final furlong and doing extremely well under the circumstances to get within two and a quarter lengths of the reopposing winner, Mailshot. He remains potentially very well-treated from just 1 lb higher in the weights here and is expected to reverse the placings under Jim Crowley, with the possibility of more to come after just seven starts.

15:35 - VENICE BEACH (7) showed improved form to get off the mark at Tipperary three weeks ago, still looking rough around the edges and leaving the impression there was much more in the locker if required. He certainly showed enough to suggest he is worth a try in this higher grade and commands plenty of respect for a yard seeking their fifth consecutive victory in this race, with the unexposed Tamleek feared most of the remainder for Godolphin.

16:05 - DAHIK (1) shaped with promise when second on his racecourse debut at Doncaster two weeks ago, travelling strongly on the front end throughout and simply finding one too strong on the day. That form leaves him 6 lb clear of those with previous experience on Timeform ratings and, although there are some interesting newcomers in opposition, Dahik should have more to offer with that initial outing under his belt and rates by far the most solid proposition with the Placepot in mind.

16:35 - ZAMJAR (12) ran well when a close fifth at Newbury three weeks ago, delivering his challenge as the field entered the final two furlongs and keeping on gamely to be beaten just two lengths. The drop back to six furlongs is expected to see him in an even better light and jockey Andrea Atzeni could hardly be in better form at present, with seven winners from his last 23 rides. Zamjar has the plum draw in stall 1 and would appear to hold sound claims with the blinkers back on this afternoon.

17:05 - BANISH (1) showed a suspect temperament towards the end of last season, but his reappearance effort at Doncaster was sufficiently encouraging to suggest that he's capable of a bold show here with Ryan Moore in the hot-seat. Caponova did the job well at Haydock recently and will be a big threat if reproducing that form here, despite going up 8 lb, and Energia Fox also enters calculations.
