Cheltenham provides a midweek treat for racing fans and that is the destination for today's attempt at the Placepot...
"He hinted at some sort of a revival when a well backed fourth at Newton Abbot last time and he comes here 10lbs lower than when he won the 2013 JLT handicap at the Festival."
14:05 - Might Bite turned a competitive-looking Newbury novices' hurdle into something of a precession when winning by 15 lengths last time out, and with some other members of this field such as Port Melon looking a far from straight forward ride, he is a confident selection to find the places in the first.
14:40 - Former Grand National fancy Shakalakaboomboom continues to plummet in the weights and perhaps showed just enough on his reappearance in the Becher in December and last time at Newbury to think that he is capable of going close in a race like this. Golden Chieftain is another who has a lot to prove, but he hinted at some sort of a revival when a well backed fourth at Newton Abbot last time and he comes here 10lbs lower than when he won the 2013 JLT handicap at the Festival. His stable are in great form at present and a first time visor could help him focus better today.
15:15 - Alternatif beat subsequent Aintree grade 3 handicap winner Theinval back in December, which puts him very well in off a mark of 132 if you ignore his latest start where he was likely inconvenienced by the heavy ground. Tistory did not disgrace himself in grade 1 company at the end of last season and is interesting reverted back to hurdles from what could be a lenient mark provided he is ready to go after a break.
15:50 - Attaglance gave a good account in last season's Paddy Power Chase at this venue last season and was probably unlucky not to win the novices' handicap chase at the Festival in 2014. He has since been down the field in a muddling December Gold Cup, before not getting the best of trips at this year's Festival, despite this his Cheltenham record is a solid one, and although he may need a lot to fall in to place to win this, he should certainly be thereabouts in the places. Allez Vic perhaps has more to offer over fences based on the way the form from both his Taunton and Chepstow placed efforts have worked out since, and he remains of interest for place purposes here despite being 2lb out of the handicap.
16:25 - A big run was clearly expected of Chicoria at Market Rasen in January based on the solid betting support, only for him to shape as if amiss and finish in last. He has since had a break, which is no bad thing seeing as he won fresh at Aintree in October, and he should be suited by both the step up to three miles and the better ground today with Richard Johnson up for the first time. Drumlee Lad is an Irish point winner who perhaps needed his first start for David Pipe last month, he should be suited by the step up in trip and his unexposed profile makes him an interesting runner at the prices.
17:00 - Un Ace needed McCoy special last time to get him home and he could be vulnerable here to one or two others in this. Kings Lad could pose a threat if building on his third at Newbury last time. The form of his Ascot win in Janurary remains strong and he has had excuses for his disappointing runs in between.
