Timeform on Piece of History

18:10 - MASTER POET (9) cut out a lot of the running when third on his 1m handicap debut here last time and this drop to seven furlongs could prove ideal. He makes most appeal, therefore, in this opening leg of the Placepot, though Navarra Princess arrives in good form and should go well again, while Sandkissed is also respected on the back of a good second at Brighton last time.

18:40 - MOYASSAR (1) found only a promising sort too strong when second at Newmarket last month and is taken to gain compensation now under Jim Crowley, who can boast an impressive 34% strike rate on favourites. Reconnaissance should build on an encouraging debut fifth at Lingfield and may prove next best ahead of Suppressor, who is an interesting sort on paper and would likely be up to figuring if the market suggests he's fancied.

19:10 - MAAKAASIB (6) produced comfortably his best performance on turf when second at Windsor three weeks ago, hitting the front entering the final two furlongs and perhaps at a disadvantage late on, given that he made his effort much earlier than the winner. Simon Crisford's charge has a solid record on the all-weather with three wins, including over C&D, and there is every reason to expect another big run from him here, still just 1 lb higher than last time and with William Buick taking over in the saddle.

19:40 - HOLLYDAZE (2) showed much improved form when second on her handicap debut at Windsor eight days ago and, 2 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings here, she looks worth backing to resume winning ways for the Richard Hughes yard, with the in-form Finley Marsh (four winners from his last 12 rides) taking a valuable 5 lb off her back, too. Tum Tum showed promise at the end of 2017 and is feared most on his return for a new yard, ahead of fellow handicap debutant Pilot Wings.

20:10 - PIECE OF HISTORY (3) is bred to be useful (by Iffraaj and out of a listed winner) and looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Leicester last month, leading over a furlong out and always in control thereafter. That form leaves him 2 lb clear of Amitie Waltz on weight-adjusted ratings here, even with his penalty, and he looks sure to take all the beating for the Saeed bin Suroor yard that won this race 12 months ago, especially if sharpening up with that initial experience under his belt.

20:40 - REAL ESTATE (8) pulled miles clear of the third when runner-up at Wolverhampton last week and, just worn down by another improver, and would appear to hold sound claims of going one better from the same mark in this concluding leg of the Placepot. The unexposed Etisalat and Quick Breath, who ran well when beaten just a head at Goodwood last time, complete the shortlist.

21:10 - SANAM likely (2) has more to offer and can complete a four-timer in the finale, though Final Choice could be up to giving him something to think about having shown fairly useful form over hurdles since last seen on the Flat. Kempton-winner Conkering Hero is next best.
