"This step up in trip will suit on pedigree..."
Timeform on Kimblewick
14:00 - COMPASS POINT (2) leaves the impression this longer trip could see him pull out more and he can defy a 3 lb rise and complete a course hat-trick. Northern-raider Corked arrives on the back of a couple of good placed efforts and can figure again, while Attain took a step back in the right direction last time and is also respected for Archie Watson.
14:30 - KIMBLEWICK (1) was strong in the betting and overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Kempton in November, doing so more comfortably than the half-length margin suggests. She travelled well throughout, making headway over two furlongs out to take up the running, idling once hitting the front and kept up to her work. This step up in trip will suit on pedigree, and she's potentially useful, so is expected to make a bold bid under a penalty. The well-bred Derevo looks an obvious danger.
15:05 - GOODNIGHT GIRL (1) progressed nicely last season, winning three times in all, her latest win coming in impressive fashion by six lengths at Windsor in August. She held her form well on her next three starts, finishing in the places on each occasion, and rates the type to improve further this term. She generally races prominently and, given that there doesn't appear to be much pace on here on paper, she could be dangerous if allowed her own way on the front end at a track that lends itself to those tactics. Course regular Rose Berry ought to be in the mix too.
15:35 - This looks a competitive race of its type, a deep field set to line up for this valuable minor event. The market hasn't missed that Aidan O'Brien has sent a runner over, either, and it could be worth taking U S S Michigan on with the William Haggas-trained FANAAR (7). He was a useful juvenile last season, but he looked a smart prospect when winning a listed event over seven furlongs at Lingfield on his return last month, very well backed to do so, too. There is plenty of stamina on his dam's side of the pedigree, so there could be even more to come now stepping up to a mile, and he has a good draw to work from.
16:10 - MAGICAL EFFECT (7) posted several creditable efforts last season despite failing to win, and having edged back down to potentially handy mark, he's expected to go well on his return to action with Oisin Murphy back in the hot seat. Decent claims can also be made for Unforgiving Minute, Quick Breath and and the prolific Lion Hearted.
16:40 - HIC BIBI (3) represents an in-form trainer and jockey and could have a better chance here than her odds suggest. She isn't long with this yard, and had been running well at Kempton and Lingfield prior to her below-par effort on her fibresand debut last time. It's probably best to ignore that run, weakening quickly on that surface after travelling well early on. A past C&D winner, Hic Bibi doesn't look badly treated and can bounce back with the headgear removed. Tavener lurks on a good mark and has a positive jockey booking, so is another to consider.
17:15 - ADMIRAL ROOKE (8) is a long-standing maiden but showed enough when runner-up at Wolverhampton on Saturday (went off too hard) to suggest he's capable of defying this career-low mark. Waneen and Red Stripes head the dangers.
17:50 - This race won't take much winning and given Michael Appleby has a good record when running his horses in first-time (change) headgear, CASH N CARRIE (3) could be worth chancing. She remains a maiden, but the pick of her form marks her down as one of the leading players in this field, and a first-time visor could spruce her up enough to take a leading role, especially now dropping back to a mile. Red Cossack remains a dangerous proposition from this sort of mark.
