"The way he travelled and how strong he was at the finish that day suggests he has even more to offer..."

Timeform on Fennaan

13:40 - It is very hard to see past DAPHINIA (1), who sets a clear standard on her second-place finish to Signora Cabello in a listed race at York. She was unable to build on that in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot last time, but should find this test much easier returned to novice company, and is fully expected to resume winning ways. Irene May made a winning debut and could prove the biggest danger with improvement forthcoming.

14:15 - This looks competitive, but the one that stands out is BREATHLESS TIMES (1), who looked potentially smart winning a couple of minor events at Wolverhampton earlier this year. He hasn't progressed on turf the last twice, but has undergone both a wind and gelding operation since last seen in July, and makes plenty of appeal now making his handicap debut. Blackheath probably hasn't peaked yet and he heads up the opposition along with Count Otto and Shaheen.

14:50 - DADDYS POPPIT (1) only showed modest form at best in three starts for William Haggas last year, but left that form well behind starting out for a new yard on handicap debut here last week, proving himself well ahead of his opening mark. A subsequent 6 lb rise may well underestimate him and he is strongly fancied to follow up, likely at the main expense on handicap debutante Private View, who surely has more to offer given her pedigree.

15:25 - A competitive handicap where it could pay to side with FENNAAN (8), who resumed winning ways in a lesser race at Kempton last time and he has a progressive profile on the all-weather. The way he travelled and how strong he was at the finish that day suggests he has even more to offer, and he should be able to shrug off a 3 lb rise in this stronger race. Squats is feared on his Newbury success 2 starts ago, whilst Victory Wave can't have been right at York last time and had looked progressive prior to that.

16:00 - SAINT DIANA (5) has finished second on all four of her starts to date, and is starting to look exposed now, but she sets a good standard in this field, and can belatedly open her account. She was beaten only by a potentially useful type over ten furlongs here last time, but the addition of first-time cheekpieces and drop back in trip can work the oracle here.

16:35 - MAKAARIM's (3) recent outing - where he was unable to land a blow in a tactical affair - is likely to have blown the cobwebs away, so it would come as no surprise if he's back at the top of his game fitted with first-time blinkers for a yard going well at present. Global Art may do better still now he's back on the up, while Statuario has been given a chance by the handicapper.

17:10 - SWORDBILL (8) benefited from a further step up in trip and ran his best race yet when runner-up at Catterick last month, and is sure to be winning before long. Konigin and Refrain are lightly-raced types with top yards so may yet do better also.
