Alan Dudman returns for his week of tipping, and he starts off on Friday with two bets at Redcar and Newcastle...

"The Eagle's Nest flew home over 1m there, shaping like today's trip over a stiff finish will bring about some improvement."

16:55 Redcar - Restive can take advantage of attractive mark

Backing a horse who is 1-15 on turf and 1-23 overall wouldn't normally be the best of tactics - but Restive holds a big chance in the Lady Amateur Riders' Handicap.

The services of Serena Brotherton have been booked, but it's the handicap mark of Restive that is so appealing. He is running from his lowest-ever rating of 62, and he has even been dropped 2lb after finishing second last time.

He hasn't run too badly at Newcastle this year, and he does like to weave through and come from off the pace. He tried it last time over 1m4f, and comes down in trip to 1m2f today.

A well-run race will suit, especially as he had form over 1m5f in Ireland on quick ground. He was rated 90 in 2015 when trained by Ger Lyons - so he is undoubtedly well-handicapped for today.

17:40 Newcastle - Eagle to soar over suitable trip

Richard Fahey's The Eagle's Nest has caught the eye a few times in a light career to date, and the step up in trip to 1m2f at Newcastle could really suit. Especially at 8/1 on the Sportsbook for this handicap.

He made a comeback run of sorts last time out at Pontefract (his first since July after being gelded), and he shaped well that day from a poor draw in unsuitable soft ground. His odds were 20/1, and he put in a good shift - making a bit of headway from off the pace. Not many win from the back at Ponty these days anyway.

I thought he ran well at Musselburgh earlier in the summer; a race in which he finished second to the 88-rated Thomas Cranmer - who possessed a bit more speed from the front. The Eagle's Nest flew home over 1m there, shaping like today's trip over a stiff finish will bring about some improvement.

He cost a few quid as a breeze-up buy at 82,000 guineas, and he is related to a couple of all-weather winners including Graphic. He could go well at a decent price.
