Bets of the Day: Torreon is hard to oppose at Kempton

Its hard to see past Torreon in the lucky last
Its hard to see past Torreon in the lucky last

Alan's first blank of the week yesterday as one selection was a non-runner and the other jumped and ran very poorly. Today he is looking to get back on track at Kempton and Southwell...

"He is short enough in the market but I think if he runs anywhere near the form he showed last time then it will take a big improvement from one of the other exposed horses in the race to beat him."

20:25 Kempton - Torreon @ 11/8 Sportsbook

The John Ryan-trained Torreon looks set to take his first handicap in the final race of the day at Kempton. The well related son of High Chaparral, finished second in a similar event to this last time out over seven furlongs and I think the drop back to six today will suit. He won his maiden over this trip at Wolverhampton and I think he is a promising sort.

This will only be his fifth career start and I think he will continue to improve, regardless of what happens here. He gets in here though off the same mark he did last time (80) and Adam Kirby, who has ridden him on all four of his previous starts, gets the leg up again today. He is short enough in the market but I think if he runs anywhere near the form he showed last time then it will take a big improvement from one of the other exposed horses in the race to beat him.

15:25 Southwell - Highland Colori @ 8.07/1 Exchange

David Probert's only mount of the day at Southwell is Highland Colori in this class two handicap. The Andrew Balding trained eight-year-old has been off the track for a while (108 days) but his last run was a very good second over course and distance in December, where he had one of the early market principles Pearl Nation as well as Showboating behind him.

Providing Balding has him fit then he looks to be too big a price at 8.07/1 on the Exchange. The market will be a good guide to tell us if he is fit or not before the off, because I can't believe if he is, he will be allowed to go off at this price.
