No luck for Alan yesterday but he returns with two selections from the jumps meeting at Hereford and on the all weather at Wolverhampton...
"Plantagenet looks more than capable of defying this mark of 107"
Plantagenet was unlucky to lose his 100% record for Seamus Mullins when he run into a similarly progressive type at Plumpton last time, he was looking for his fifth consecutive win that day. The horse that beat him was Cucklington, who has gone in again since and the third that day, who was five lengths behind Plantagenet, finished second in his next outing, on that basis Plantagenet looks more than capable of defying this mark of 107.
Since moving from the Mark Bradstock yard to the Mullins team he has been well ridden by apprentice jockey Daniel Sansom (claiming 7lbs) who partners him again today. He is the current market leader and I expect his jumping will improve on his second start over fences, he looks like he is the one they will have to beat today.
Star Story let his followers down last time when sent off an even money favourite and was last of three runners, but I don't think the three-year-old filly was at her best that day in a muddling small field affair and she can make amends in this bigger field which should allow her to settle. She raced far too keenly last time and despite finishing last she was only beaten a length.
The fact she was sent off such a warm order for her first handicap in a Class 3 Newmarket contest, it is clearly expected that she can go well off a mark of 74 with a stronger pace today likely to suit, you would think she is capable of picking up a Wolverhampton affair, assuming she can handle the surface.
