Alan found another placed runner yesterday, that halved in price, and then the fifth in Welsh National which he backed Each Way (starting price was 25/1). Hopefully, the racing gods will be a little kinder with today's selections from Leicester and Lingfield...
"he has been struggling to see out his trips recently, the drop back to two miles today will help him"
Back Paddy The Deejay @ 6/1 in the 12:55 Leicester
Paddy The Deejay is still to win a race in the UK, his only win was over two years ago in a point to point in Ireland. However, he has been well supported in the market on his last few attempts and as a result of his losing sequence has plummeted down the weights. The money has already started to come for the seven-year-old gelding, he opened up at 11/1 on the Sportsbook and is now (at the time of writing) a 6/1 chance.
He also has the added advantage that Ciaran Gethings is in the plate taking an extra 5lb off his back. Ciaran, conditional jockey to Philip Hobbs, has ridden the horse once before and they finished second of 12 at Fontwell. While he has looked like he has been struggling to see out his trips recently, the drop back to two miles today will help him as will running off 109, maybe today is the day connections get some of their money back.
Four time course winner Gaelic Silver is dropped into selling company today and is the highest rated (75) of what has to be said look a pretty poor bunch. He certainly isn't the most reliable runner you will ever back, as he showed last time out finishing last of 10 over course and distance in a Class 4 handicap, but the last time the 10-year-old was dropped into this class, he won easily at Windsor. Hector Crouch, claiming 3lbs is on board and he knows the horse well, having ridden him on six of his last eight starts.
The main danger to the selection may come in the shape of one of the three-year-olds, Hepplewhite, he has the cheekpieces on for the first time and may still be improving. However, while this is his first attempt in this low grade, he is still a maiden after 12 starts. Because he hasn't managed to get his head in front on the line, I would rather side with the multiple course winner Gaelic Silver today at 9/4.
