You can expect Deira Surprise to improve again today
Lingfield 15:05
Hugo Palmer runs his three-year-old filly Deira Surprise in this Class 4 handicap over seven furlongs. The filly got off the mark at Wolverhampton in December winning by a length but you got the impression that Jack Mitchell could have won by a few more if he wanted too. The form of that race has been franked as Coolagh Magic has come out and won twice and the fourth, Albert Finney, has also won since, that makes her 5lb rise look more than manageable.
Also, I wouldn't be concerned over the 96 days she has been off the track, she won last time after being away 104 days and I think there is every reason to expect further improvement to come, she should prove very tough to beat in this company. If she does falter then the one that could pick up the pieces is the hat-trick seeking Shanghai Grace for the Charles Hills team. She was impressive when winning last time out but I just think there is more to come from Deira Surprise and I am siding with her today.
Tony Carroll's charge is a Force to be reckoned with on the all weather
Kempton 20:00
Poetic Force's record on the all weather reads 13 runs, five wins and three places, the horse has only twice finished outside the first five home on a synthetic surface and was a very solid second last time here, only going down by half a length when caught on the line very late in the race. The 2lb rise doesn't look enough to stop him going well once more and the drop down in trip should help him get over the line in front this time. In fact everything looks in place for him to claim his sixth win on the all weather tonight.
Others in the lineup that made the shortlist are, Unforgiving Minute, a course and distance winner who is an impressive 10-time winner on the all-weather but was beaten four lengths when last seen in handicap company, so I'm not sure he is a worthy favourite here and has something to prove returned to this level. A stronger contender might be Call Out Loud who got up to win by a short head on the straight mile at Newcastle on his penultimate start and then followed that up with a fourth on Polytrack over seven-furlongs, but that was a considerably tougher race. I think Poetic Force will be tough to beat tonight.
