Alan's best bet of the day was only beaten a short head after trading at 1.162/13 in running yesterday. He is looking to get back to winning ways with two from Salisbury and Carlisle...
"this should play straight into the hands of Mike Murphy's charge who finished like a rocket at Sandown last time out"
I like the look of one in the second race on the Salisbury card today, it is a race over the minimum trip for horses aged six or over and at the time of writing eight go to post. There should be plenty of early pace in the race with the likes of Baby Fact, Edged Out and even Zac Brown capable of leading and setting a strong pace. That should play straight into the hands of Mike Murphy's charge Rio Ronaldo who finished like a rocket at Sandown last time out. He gets in here off the same mark, which is only 2lbs above his last winning rating and providing he is able to settle in the early stages I can see Andrea Atzeni bringing him through to pick these off in the final furlong.
Of the others one that I thought might run well and make the frame at a bigger price was Silverrica from the Malcolm Saunders yard. She won this race two years ago off a 5lbs higher mark and was a winner at Bath two starts ago. She was though behind two of these at Goodwood on her latest outing and only 1lb better off here. She's a bit temperamental and difficult to predict but on her day she is more than capable.
Just a field of five line up for this interesting seven furlong race at Carlisle, but there are old scores to settle. Kalagia gets the chance to reverse the places with Harvest Day, Kalagia was beaten half a length by the current market favourite over this course and distance just nine days ago. She hasn't been out of the front three in five of her six starts as a three-year-old and it is time she added a win to that long list of place efforts. However, with the Mark Johnston team in great from and a 6lb swing in the weights with Harvest Day, I think she is more than capable of achieving that.
For me the only other runner that could stop Kalagia today is Final Treat, she has some decent form in the book including finishing just five and a half lengths behind subsequent Coronation Stakes third Veracious, in a maiden at Newmarket in October. But she has failed to improve on that promising run and could only finish sixth on handicap debut last time out. She has the first time cheekpieces on today which will probably help her but she would need to improve quite a bit I think to get to the level of Harvest Day and Kalagia.
