Bets of the Day: Luang Prabang time to start paying dividends

Alan's best bet of the day was well backed again yesterday but failed to deliver, his other selection was unfortunately a non-runner. Today he has an each-way selection at Kempton and one from Stratford...

"I think they have found a very poor race here in an effort to at least make the frame"

Back Luang Prabang Each Way @ 8/1 in the 20:40 Kempton

20:40 Kempton - Luang Prabang Each-Way @ 8/1

Chris Wall has an interesting unexposed maiden, Luang Prabang, running in this race at Kempton. Although she has been unplaced in all four of her starts, three of those were in very tough Newmarket maidens where the filly was never really expected to contest starting at 25/1, 33/1 and 66/1. When she was expected to perform, last time out in a six furlong maiden at Yarmouth, she was sent off a well backed 4/1 favourite.

I think the Wall team will have been a bit disappointed with that Yarmouth performance where she travelled well until two furlongs out but then found nothing at the business end of the race. However, they may have found a very poor race here in an effort to at least make the frame.

She was reportedly backward as a two-year-old so she is very much still learning her trade and could be useful in this low level affair. There is no doubt she will certainly have to improve on all known form, but she has an interesting profile and at 8/1 with Ted Durcan on top, I think she is worth taking an each-way punt on.

19:20 Stratford - Generous Chief @ 85/40

Graeme McPherson's Generous Chief has already won on two of his three starts for the yard after moving from Chris Grant's yard earlier this year. The hat-trick seeking gelding certainly has to carry plenty of weight here today but the way she won at Southwell 10 days ago, being eased down to win by six lengths, she looks more than capable of continuing her rich vein of form.

Her other win for the McPherson yard was here, over course and distance just last month where she again pulled well clear of the field to win by eight lengths. She is short enough at around 2/1 to win this 15-runner handicap but it's hard to make a case for anything beating her. Wiffy Chatsby could be a threat having finished ahead of Generous Chief at Cartmel in June, but he hasn't won since 2013 and has a tendency to be happy to finish second, something he has done in his last four starts.
