Bets of the Day: Roy Brotherton to get first winner of 2016

Miracle Garden can make all at Kempton tonight
Miracle Garden can make all at Kempton tonight

Alan Thompson landed his forecast at Southwell yesterday ensuring a profitable return for the day. Today his two selections are from Kempton and Lingfield...

"Jim Crowley has ridden the horse nine times out his 11 all weather starts, winning six and finishing runner up twice"

Miracle Garden ran up a hat-trick of wins on the all weather at the end of last year, winning at Wolverhampton twice as well as a course and distance win here in October. Twelve days ago he ran a creditable second to Rich Again over this trip at Wolverhampton. He ran his usual race from the front but just failed to hold on when he was headed inside the final furlong, but that wasn't a bad effort.

Roy Brotherton isn't the most prolific of trainers but he does only have a small yard, He is yet to have a winner this year and has only had four winners over the last 12 months. However, three of those wins were with Miracle Garden and with Adam Kirby doing the steering today I think he can get on the scoreboard for 2016.

15:45 Lingfield - Arch Villain @ 2/1 Sportsbook

Amanda Perrett's first winner of 2016 was Arch Villain and he won very impressively on January 15th despite being off the course for almost two years. Jim Crowley got the seven-year-old gelding home over one and half miles at this track, running on to beat Spuer Kid by ust over a length.

Jim Crowley has ridden the horse nine times out his 11 all weather starts, winning six and finishing runner up twice, so he gets on exceptionally well with the horse. While the horse is up in trip and recieved a 5lbs rise in the weights for hat win, I am struggling to find a reason why he won't go in again.

Notarised looks like he could be the main danger, with three runs from 12 starts last year and a decent third place finish at Goodwood. He has been of the course 147 days but I am sure Mark Johnston will have him fit and ready. The next best looks like Frosty Berry who is bidding for a five timer, his three consecutive all weather wins though were all on the fibresand and this is big step up in class. I think Arch Villain can keep both of these behind him and I think he is the one they will have to catch.
